The Role BuzzFeed is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Director of Revenue Accounting to join our team. The ideal candidate will be an active CPA with exceptional analytic, management, communication, and technology skills. The role will report to the Assistant Controller. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a dynamic environment, will bring energy and passion, and will not be afraid to roll up their sleeves to tackle challenging assignments. This is a full-time, hybrid, position located in our New York City office with the ability to come into the office twice a week. You Will Oversee revenue accounting operations inclusive of revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and cost of goods sold Responsible for revenue recognition policies and procedures are in conformance with ASC606, US GAAP, and other authoritative requirements Enhance company's existing practices and further develop best practices around revenue accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to increase efficiency and accuracy Manage the monthly and quarterly revenue close process, including the accurate and timely reporting of financials in compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements. Review significant, complex, and/or non-standard entries, credit memos and adjustments in the GL. Monitor new revenue accounting standards and participate in the interpretation, analysis and documentation of potential financial statement impact and work with the team in their implementation Review and analyze all new customer revenue contracts to ensure proper revenue recognition treatment Responsible for OTC and related revenue performance metrics Analyze revenue results and provide margin analysis to detail the key drivers of change to senior management Utilize multiple reporting systems including Netsuite, Boostr, Concur, and Adaptive Oversee customer collections, and assist in cash management by forecasting receipt expectations and cash requirements, inclusive of daily cash reporting Quarterly reporting for commission calculations, as well as bi-weekly reporting of cash collections for initiation of commission payouts Lead and mentor a dynamic revenue team, fostering an energetic and high-performance work environment Collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders in an understandable manner. Identify and resolve accounting issues, ensuring effective problem-solving with a continuous process-improvement mindset. Collaborate with external auditors and manage PBC requests under the purview of revenue management Maintain internal controls in compliance with SOX You Have Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. CPA certification required. Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including public company experience Strong, in-depth knowledge of ASC 606 rules with a focus on advertising industry Proven experience managing and leading accounting teams in a dynamic fast-paced environment Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to think outside the box, comfortable with ambiguity and providing suggestions and guidance Familiarity with STAQ reporting, or an equivalent data aggregation tool Proficiency in Excel required, Netsuite a plus Excellent organization skills and superior attention to detail Self-starter, independently motivated with a proactive approach and the ability to motivate and inspire others Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills Life at BuzzFeed, Inc.
