Qualifications: Administrative license, experience in teaching and/or directing CTE courses and programs, familiarity with a wide range of CTE courses and expectations, familiarity with state and federal mandates and the Perkins grant.
Reports to: Superintendent of LEA, and the Southlake Career Cooperative Board
The Director of Southlake Career Cooperative (SLCC) is the administrator responsible for the administration of all area career and technical education programs. The Director provides services to all the local education agencies in the area district. The Director works extensively with state offices including the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, Office of Workforce Development, the Indiana Department of Education, and the Indiana Association of Career and Technical Education.
Responsibilities of the Director of Career and Technical Education include:
* Promote career and technical education throughout the area CTE district at all levels and assist with implementation, maintenance, and improvement of instruction.
* Develop and recommend career and technical education policies, procedures, and cooperative agreements to the SLCC Board.
* Administer and provide leadership for all state policies regarding CTE programs and standards. Establish, maintain, and periodically revise policies and plans for program operation and development.
* Assist and supervise all districts in collecting data relative to all CTE reports, performance standards, and follow-up information. Monitor compliance with federal and state regulations in the administration of career and technical grant programs.
* Prepare and conduct SLCC Board meetings according to the SLCC agreement.
* Provide oversight of all financial aspects of the SLCC. Distribute necessary information at the SLCC board meetings.
* Assist in planning and coordinating articulation and dual credit partnerships.
* Serve as contact person with the state relative to all approved career and technical education programs in the district and coordinate all fiscal functions as necessary for the area district.
* Inform area superintendents concerning all aspects of the area CTE district including programming, planning, and staffing. Review and evaluate career and technical education programs to improve educational quality.
* Assist all corporations with compliance issues and audits pertaining to CTE programs.
* Supervise and coordinate applicable surveys, in-service workshops, and curriculum development.
* Supervise the coordination of school principals, guidance counselors, and other appropriate personnel in providing career and technical education opportunities for all students.
* Develop, foster, and maintain a positive liaison with the community, business, and industrial sectors. Maintain an area advisory board and coordinate the use of advisory committees for all career and technical programs.
* Provide for the needs of area career and technical education programs in the areas of curriculum, supplies, equipment, and facilities. Aid in developing and maintaining standards of instruction and to provide for the improvement of quality in instructional methodology through supervision.
* Provide positive staff development programs and opportunities for career and technical education personnel.
* Assist in the recruitment and hiring of employees for appointment or dismissal in accordance with the policies established by the SLCC Board.
* Coordinate career and technical staff licensing and certification including assisting with recertifications.
* Maintain equipment inventory and conduct periodic audits.
* Promote the development of career and technical student organizations to provide leadership training activities for students.
* Keep informed of legislation affecting career and technical education and provide legislators with information pertaining to such legislation. Represent the area CTE district at regional and state forums.
* Administer Perkins Act funds and other career and technical funds in accordance with federal regulations including writing the grant applications and follow-up reporting. Seek and write competitive and non-competitive grant applications.
* Participate in local, regional, and state workforce development committees and activities as directed by the SLCC Board such as IACTED, NICTEC (Northwest Indiana Career and Technical Education Consortium), Ready NWI CTE, regional Workforce Partnership Plan, chamber of commerce, etc.
* Serve as the administrator in charge of appointment of advisory committee members, and works with individual CTE teachers on the effective operation of their advisory committees.
* Other duties as assigned by the SLCC president or board.
