Position Title:Director of Student RecreationJob Description:GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTIONAll Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students.The Director of Student Recreation is responsible for the overall administration and leadership of student recreation, ensuring alignment with the college's mission, vision, and goals. This role involves managing and executing campus recreational programs and services, as well as working closely with campus and community partners to offer a wide range of recreational activities.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEMinimum of a Master's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university; Experience with organizing intramural sports and/or athletics; excellent written and interpersonal communication skills; Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher; Supervisory experience; Current CPR/First Aid Certification and/or willingness to obtain certification within specified time.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.Plan, implement, and oversee a variety of recreational programs, including intramurals, student activities, and special events.Create and manage the recreation department's budget, including forecasting expenses, monitoring expenditures, and ensuring financial accountability.Foster student engagement through recreational activities that promote physical health, mental well-being, and social connections.Maintain a working knowledge of the rules and regulations for intramural sports, including basketball, football, disc golf, dodgeball, kickball, and softball.Prepare and line intramural fields for various sports.Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures governing the use of recreational facilities and participation in programs.Track intramural equipment, ensuring timely purchases of new items and servicing of older equipment.Design promotional materials such as posters, flyers, and t-shirts for student activities, intramurals, and major events.Oversee the operation and management of the campus game room.Build and maintain collaborative relationships with departments such as Athletics, Student Services, Student Success Center, and Mental Health Services to support campus-wide wellness initiatives.Provide and organize activities throughout the academic year.This position requires the ability to frequently lift 50+ pounds and work outdoors regularly for intramural activities and college events.Refer serious misconduct to Campus Police and the Dean of Students for appropriate action.Serve on campus-wide committees, attend staff and committee meetings as required.Conduct regular assessments to evaluate the effectiveness, student satisfaction, and outcomes of recreational programs and services.Develop and implement strategies to effectively promote recreational programs.Assist with college-wide events, including planning, setup, and breakdown.Engage in professional development activities such as attending conferences, seminars, and workshops.Oversee the operations and management of the Esports program.Oversee Student Organizations and supervise fundraising activities for student clubs and organizations.Perform all other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Assistant Director of Recreation for Raymond and Utica Campuses, eSports Coach, and Work Study StudentsPHYSICAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
