Job Title:Director Surgical ServicesJob Summary:The Director Surgical Services is a registered nurse (RN) with expertise in perioperative nursing practice, providing leadership and oversight to ensure the safe and effective delivery of patient care. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, this role involves managing personnel, resources, clinical practice, education/outreach, and research within the surgical services department.Key Responsibilities:Management of Personnel and Leadership:Oversee the development of surgical services aligned with Oneida Health's strategic direction.Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop and implement a Strategic Plan for growth and operational improvements.Hire, coach, and monitor the performance of direct reports, fostering high-performance teams.Implement team-building, trust-building, and conflict resolution processes.Address performance issues promptly and in compliance with policies and regulations.Management of Resources:Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring operational targets are met.Analyze financial information and collaborate with nursing teams to drive improvements.Support a decentralized management philosophy (Shared Governance) across the care continuum.Clinical Practice:Develop a patient care system that encourages professional practice and results in quality, cost-effective care.Assure patient and family care meets Oneida Health standards.Demonstrate clinical knowledge by providing consultation, assisting with patient care, and acting as a resource.Analyze clinical practice for opportunities to increase effectiveness and efficiency.Ensure compliance with safety requirements and manage organizational safety goals.Education/Outreach:Identify clinical learning opportunities for students in various health care disciplines.Assume responsibility for clinical performance, assessment of practices, and development of education and quality programs.Stay current with nursing practice for policy development, procedures, education, and best practices.Research:Evaluate current research in nursing for applicability within units/programs of care.Use results of quality assurance studies to identify and design process improvement projects.Education:Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required); Master of Science in Nursing (preferred)Experience:Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, including three (3) years of progressive leadership experience. Current regulatory and accreditation experience.Licenses & Certification:Unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in State of New York (required); Certification in specialty (preferred).Soft Skills:Managerial skills for planning, organizing, and directing operational activities.Strong organizational and negotiation skills.Demonstrated interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of hospital personnel and external parties.Strong clinical knowledge of best practices.Comfort with interdisciplinary collaboration and partnering with key stakeholders.Passion for excellence and elevating the abilities of patient care providers.Excellent verbal and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.Age Specific Competency:Patients served by direct or indirect patient care Infants (Birth-11months); Child (12months-12yrs); Adolescent (13-19yrs); Young Adult (20-40yrs); Middle Adult (41-65yrs); Older Adult (>65yrs).
