Job Description:
DIRECTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNINGReports to: Superintendent of SchoolsResponsibilities:
  • Coordinate and lead the curriculum implementation consistent with national, state, and local standards and aligned at each grade and level.
  • Direct the development, evaluation, instruction, and revision of curriculum, curriculum mapping, and implement newly approved instructional programs.
  • Lead and facilitate a professional development program for teachers to support high-quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
  • Provide leadership in developing plans for instructional research and pilot studies for curriculum, instruction, and new courses of study.
  • Develop and Support Educator Evaluation tools, training, and guidance
  • Lead, Develop, and Coordinate SOA Plan (Student Opportunity Act)
  • Monitor Structured Learning Time (SLT) and Student Learning Experience (SLE)
  • Analyze assessment data, MCAS, IReady, and present to the School Committee
  • Gather and analyze data on academic performance, course-taking patterns, absenteeism, student outcomes, etc, to support decision-making and program evaluation for program, building and district leadership, and grant and state reporting.
  • Coordinate Home School Program
  • Supervise District Teaching and Learning staff.
  • Lead and guide the District's CORE work initiatives
  • Lead the district in existing and anticipated DESE mandates
  • Manage and keep track of District Grants and Stipends
  • Develop and manage implementation of federal Title I, II, and IV grants
  • Represent Swampscott at local and state roundtables and professional networks to broaden opportunities for our district
  • Maintain a high level of competence in the field of education, remaining current with issues related to teaching and learning responsibilities
  • Participate in the Administrative Leadership Team.
  • Perform and assume all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Superintendent.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in curriculum development or school administration
  • Hold or be eligible for licensure in MA Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent
  • Strong understanding and experience in the design and implementation of best instructional strategies and assessments, curriculum development, professional development, program evaluation and improvement, supervision and evaluation
  • Ability to lead and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders focused on a common goal of curriculum alignment, consistency in instructional methodologies, and student achievement
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills in the form of public presentations and stakeholder collaboration
  • Five years of classroom teaching and administrative experience
Physical Requirements: This position may require long periods of standing, walking, and sitting; talking or hearing in person and by telephone; using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reaching with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual may be exposed to ultraviolet lights found in computer monitors and copying equipment.
