  • Principal Working Relationship: Executive Director of the Carthage Campus, Vice President of Academic Services, Deans, Chairpersons, Program Support Specialists, Director of Workforce and Community Education, Hourly Workers, Contractual Workers, Workforce Partners, staff and faculty at the Carthage Campus
Major Responsibilities / Assists With / Risk ManagementPrimary Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the daily operations and supervision of all employees of the Carthage Campus including custodial, maintenance, and facility staffing during regular business hours, evenings, and weekends.
  • Recruit, hire, train and evaluate staff and make recommendations concerning their retention and advancement.
  • Maintain relationships with college and community stakeholders.
  • Attend community meetings as outlined by the Executive Director of the Carthage Campus.
  • Manage the college resource room-food pantry including ordering of food located on the Carthage Campus in coordination with the Director of Student Engagement & Leadership.
  • Registration and on-site implementation of programs.
  • Assist the appropriate department with the development, planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of all special events.
  • Actively participate in workforce development and community education offerings as outlined by the Executive Director of the Carthage Campus.
  • Operate College motor vehicles as needed to facilitate workforce, community education and student organization/life activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist With:
  • Development of the annual budget for the Carthage Campus and coordination of all requisitions, purchasing and inventory maintenance. Provide input to other budget managers regarding Carthage budgetary needs.
  • Recruitment, hiring, orientation, training and evaluation of full and part-time faculty in cooperation with Human Resources, Deans and Chairpersons, and Academic Services.
  • The development and implementation of programs offered at the Carthage Campus and in the southern portion of the district in cooperation with Deans and Chairpersons.
  • Area high schools and with other agencies in the active recruitment of prospective students.
  • Economic development activities and vocational education programs.
  • The Coordinator of Carthage Campus Student Services with registration, student support and student life activities.
  • Creation, implementation, and assessment of workforce development and community education offerings in cooperation with the Executive Director of the Carthage Campus.
  • Development of goals and assess outcomes for college and Carthage Campus initiatives and activities. Assist with the reporting of associated metrics and the making of data-driven decisions regarding plans and actions.
  • Promotion of Carl Sandburg College by speaking as an informed representative and representing the college in area groups and organizations as outlined by the Executive Director of the Carthage Campus.
  • Risk Management and Loss Prevention Activities:
  • Actively participate in and carry out activities in support of the College's Risk Management Program by working with appropriate staff to ensure the safety and security of the staff and assets of Carl Sandburg College.
  • Monitor hazardous conditions, events, and circumstance present in the college operation to avoid potential torts or injuries to students, staff, or the general public, then communicate observations to the appropriate supervisor and/or Risk Management Committee.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the college's emergency procedures and how to operate emergency phone systems; including internal/external call boxes.
  • Plan and implement training for key staff in safety procedures.
  • Minimum Necessary Skills, Experience, and Educational BackgroundMinimum Necessary Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of four years of administrative/management experience required. Master's degree and administrative experience in a community college preferred.
  • Must be able to take initiative and lead a team, be a strategic thinker, and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate with all constituents: faculty, staff, students, contract partners, etc. regardless of ages, socio-economic status, gender, or race.
  • Supervisory skills required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Spanish or French proficiency preferred.
  • Physical Requirements to Perform Job FunctionPhysical Requirements to Perform Job Functions:
  • General physical effort required includes sitting, bending, reaching, and some lifting (20lbs or less) and the ability to place a work order for anything over that limit
