Job Description:

The Director of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center works within the mission of the Division of Student Experience to provide diverse programming to LGBTQ+ students in a safe, affirming, and welcoming environment. The Director provides vision, strategic leadership, and overall supervision to the LGBTQ+ Resource Center in support of the University's academic mission and the strategic priorities of Student Experience.

The LGBTQ+ Resource Center plays a critical role in student support and advisement, educational efforts, community building, fostering dialogue, and ongoing initiatives to ensure that all students have the fullest opportunity to flourish and succeed. In addition to overseeing the administrative and operational functions, the Director will work collaboratively to provide advice, counsel, referrals, and educational resources to LGBTQ+ students.

Qualifications

* Master's degree in Higher Education or related field required.

* Five (5) plus years of increasing responsibility in higher education setting.

* Three (3) years of direct or indirect LGBTQQIA student service in higher education.

* Overall demonstrated commitment to working with people with marginalized genders and sexualities.

* Experience with facilitation and design of workshops, as well as experience with group facilitation and individual advising of LGBTQQIA college students in a non-therapeutic context.

* Established record of programs and events with attention to logistics, budgets, contracts, and publicity.

Job Specific Qualifications

* Strong leadership which includes but is not limited to strategic planning, visioning, forecasting, fiscal and program management.

* Extensive knowledge of student development, social justice, and LGBTQQIA identities, cultures, experiences, and development theories.

* Strong commitment to social justice and understanding of intersectional identities and experiences.

* Ability to implement, execute, and assess programs and services.

* Strong communication skills, written and verbal, and ability to be collaborative/work on a small team.

* Strong administrative skills.

* Supervisory skills for staff with a range in experience from undergraduate work-study to graduate students to semi-seasoned professionals.

Responsibilities

* Advance the mission of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center by providing departmental leadership, management, and oversight, setting, and guiding the overall vision and strategic direction for the office and staff, and supporting students and staff, on topics related to sexual and gender identity.

* The Director will recruit, select, direct, evaluate, and support the professional development of a strong team of program staff and volunteers.

* Develop and maintain appropriate training protocols for program staff and volunteers.

* Carefully track and manage the center's budget.

* Align budgetary allocations with divisional and institutional objectives and priorities.

* Continually assess the effectiveness of programs and services.

* Identify opportunities to sunset less impactful programs and services when seeking resources for new programs or services.

* Lead efforts to provide dynamic learning activities, programs, and dialogues that engage diverse perspectives and foster shared understanding, in collaboration with students, student organizations, and campus and community stakeholders.

* Oversee, support, and assist with planning and implementing departmental educational awareness and learning programs including, but not limited to Trans Week of Liberation and Lavender Graduation.

* Serve as a primary point of contact, resource, and support for students experiencing issues related to sexual and gender identity and provide direct support and connections with campus and community resources.

* Act as a resource for parents, incoming students, or alumni seeking assistance.

* Provide a comprehensive range of advocacy, education, information, and referrals for LGBTQ identified individuals and student groups.

* Supervise one full-time program coordinator and co-supervises undergraduate student workers.

* Provides a learning environment that fosters the personal and professional development of students.

* Facilitate collaborative partnerships with campus departments and grow strong partnerships with local community organizations.

* Identify areas for ally development along with campus awareness and learning on issues concerning LGBTQ populations.

* Works creatively with others to anticipate and provide constructive responses to challenging student and community issues.

* Other position-related duties as assigned.
