Job Description:If you are ready to change the world and protect the protectors, the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) currently has an IMMEDIATE opportunity for a Director of Training and Grants to work in the IAFF and head the IAFF Training and Grants Department. This is an exempt, full-time position (37.5-hour work week) with office assignment at the Headquarters of the International Association of Fire Fighters in Washington D.C. Position Summary:The Director of Training and Grants is responsible for overseeing the operations, personnel, and program delivery of the Training and Grants Administration departments for the IAFF. This role ensures alignment between training programs and grant-funded initiatives. The Director manages a multidisciplinary team, monitors budgetary compliance, and serves as a key liaison between the IAFF, federal and state government agencies, and fire service organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operations and personnel of the Training Department.
  • Ensure the quality, relevance, and effectiveness of training curriculum, materials, and evaluations, while adhering to national standards and regulations related to firefighter training.
  • Ensure compliance with grant requirements related to training deliverables and program evaluation processes.
  • Represent the IAFF on various NFPA technical committees focused on firefighter training and education.
  • Maintain IAFF ProBoard accreditation.
  • Oversee the management and administration of IAFF federal grant awards throughout the life cycle, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and grant requirements.
  • Manage the operations and personnel of the Grants Administration department.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with federal agencies, ensuring effective communication and compliance with grant terms and conditions.
  • Monitor and manage grant reporting, including budgeting, projected obligations, and closeout procedures, ensuring compliance with federal regulations (e.g., Code of Federal Regulations).
  • Provide oversight for IAFF grant programs, including sourcing, compliance, and reporting for AFG, SAFER, and FPS grants.
  • Serve as Co-Principal Investigator, as needed, for IAFF federal grant awards.
  • Analyze and manage training and grant budgets, ensuring expenditures align with program goals and financial controls.
  • Review and approve expense reports for department consultants and vendors via systems such as ReQlogic and Concur.
  • Work with other IAFF departments to evaluate financial progress, ensuring that deliverables and financial targets are met.
  • Utilize technical software, including Tableau, for budgeting, grant forecasting, and data analysis.
  • Assist in developing and implementing strategic plans and departmental objectives in line with the organization's mission.

Additional Duties:

  • Perform other duties as required to support the department's mission and ensure effective training and grant administration.
  • Attend internal and external meetings related to both grants and training, representing the department and the IAFF in various forums.

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks efficiently, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of federal grants management, including FEMA GO, eRA Commons, and related systems.
  • Understanding of national standards, policies, and regulations related to firefighter training.
  • Proficient in training curriculum development, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Familiarity with relevant technical software for budgeting and grant forecasting (e.g., Tableau).
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in grants management, training administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in federal grants management and oversight of complex training programs.
