Job Summary
The Director of University Events provides leadership and expertise in the planning, execution and creative concepting of high-level institutional events, both on and off campus, sponsored by the president or other members of senior university leadership. Events may include academic ceremonies, social events, celebrations, conferences, and meetings that help tell the story of the University and increase brand equity. This role will also supervise the Director of AV Event Services and the Coordinator of University Events to ensure service for all university events are supported.
Responsibilities
* Directs the production and creative concept for events by coordinating with university administrators, vendors, performing groups, special guests, event support staff, etc. Provide Event consultation to university colleges/units. Interact with diverse campus guests, including alumni, donors, legislative officials, visiting dignitaries. Ensure that all event-related materials are compliant with university policies, procedures and branding and that the university's strategic priorities are reflected in the planning and presentation of events.
* Coordinate facility, catering, custodial, location set-up, audiovisual, concessions, safety, security, photography, and personnel needs for each event.
* Supervise FTE staff across multiple campuses.
* Manage expenses for university events and negotiate fees with vendors for material and services, approves expenditures, prepares related reports and oversee the commencement operations budget.
* Supports the Office of the President and the Office of University Relations as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Must have excellent oral and written skills and be able to communicate effectively with a wide variety of administrators, faculty, donors, and the general public.
* Accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
* Must have strong organizational skills and be able to handle multiple concurrent tasks for extended periods.
* The director must demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and possess high levels of customer service and professionalism, particularly in stressful situations.
* Must be available for evening/weekend hours and able to travel as needed.
* Frequent medium lifting (10-20 lbs.)
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree required.
* Seven years' experience facilitating large-scale, high-level events, higher education event experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
* Master's Degree preferred.
