This Position Pays: $92,412-$115,515POSITION SUMMARY:The Director of Warehouse Operations is responsible for overseeing the overall operational administration and management of all Houston Food Bank's (HFB) warehouse and distribution activities. This position is responsible for the oversight and proper handling of the warehouse to meet safety and sanitation standards established by regulatory agencies, HFB, and the Feeding America network. The Director of Warehouse Operations is responsible for implementing strategies designed to move HFB's mission forward as indicated in the Strategic Goals, including the effective planning and execution of warehousing and distribution activities, the development of the departmental budget, and developing reporting staff members. This position will evaluate current systems and procedures and implement changes as necessary. The Director of Warehouse Operations must maintain a high level of customer service related to, partners, neighbors, donors, and volunteers.Adhere to PACT values. Transparency: Doing things openly and honestly.)ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:The Director of Warehouse Operations must effectively carry out the essential job functions and responsibilities of this position in a manner that consistently demonstrates HFB's mission and core values.
  • Implements strategic plans for the food bank warehouse and distribution operations to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness in serving the community.
  • Ensures that all food safety protocols are followed, including proper storage, handling, and disposal of food products.
  • Oversees the implementation of all warehouse operations, including logistics, scheduling systems, delivery, loading dock activity, food storage and security, warehouse temperature control, pest control, emergency action plans, and closing procedures.
  • Responsible for leading the analysis of inventory levels to ensure equitable and impactful distribution of goods and materials.
  • Develops and drives a culture of yes through daily assessments and operational evaluation of opportunities to provide support and out-of-the-box thinking.
  • Upon review of the operating results of the warehouse and distribution operations, takes steps to address concerns.
  • Directs the activities involved in the efficient movement of products including accurate receipt, storage, and distribution maximizing space, and resources, and avoiding unnecessary waste or damages.
  • Establishes effective procedures and controls for the safe and efficient movement and preservation of product; monitors adherence to established procedures to ensure safety and sanitation measures are followed in keeping with Feeding American and American Institute of Baking (AIB) guidelines.
  • Ensures an accurate inventory of products at all times through a maintained inventory control system.
  • Proactively partners with the logistics leadership to ensure the scheduling and coordinating of deliveries, pickups, and distribution of products.
  • Directly accountable for the successful implementation, assessment, and transition of all new operational initiatives.
  • Analyzes trends in technology and assesses the impact of emerging technologies to create efficiencies in food warehousing.
  • Cultivates a high-performance, result-oriented work climate by maintaining positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensures accurate documentation of program procedures and best practices for internal use, as well as to enable sharing of successful models with other Food Banks and external stakeholders.
  • Using quantifiable metrics and management expertise, performs departmental audits to determine cost benefit as well as demand and service capacity.
  • Ensures optimal effectiveness and production through effective use of inventory software specifically warehouse management, inventory procurement and management, labor control, and distribution logistics.
  • Serves as a member of the leadership team and as such is responsible for providing leadership in decision-making and vision-building for HFB community.
  • Keeps informed regarding Feeding America, as well as county, state, and federal government contracts, disaster programs, etc., and assist with logistical aspects of HFB's disaster relief plan.
  • Serves as primary liaison with auditors for HFB warehouse.
  • Monitors and manages budgets, including reporting on expenses.
  • Maintains accurate records and reports on inventory, food distribution, and other operational data.
  • Serves as a liaison between the warehouse and other departments within HFB, ensuring clear communication and collaboration.
  • Fosters a positive and collaborative team culture that encourages continuous learning and improvement.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:Manages one (1) or more functions by providing guidance and/or oversight to employees and/or contractors. Develops and maintains roles, responsibilities, and expectations. Practices performance management in support of employee development, and perform administrative duties associated with being a people manager. Responsibilities include interviewing, planning, assigning, directing work, and resolving problems. Responsibilities also include sponsoring and participating in and/or supporting project teams sponsored by other management team members.QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Supply Chain, Operations Management, or a closely related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
    • Minimum of seven years of prior management experience in warehousing and distribution roles.
    • Demonstrated senior leadership with strategic, policy, and budget planning experience.
    • 3+ years experience with food distribution.
    • 5+ years experience with distribution/logistics systems preferred.
    Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
    • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and insurance
    • APICS Certification (strongly preferred)
