Position Summary/Purpose of Position: The A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park is seeking a Director, Office of Global Engineering Leadership (OGEL). The office serves as the central hub for global programs, leadership development initiatives, and undergraduate onboarding. The Clark School has one of the highest engineering abroad participation levels in the country, offers a large Minor program and associated leadership courses, and serves as a campus leader in onboarding undergraduate students with a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) focus. OGEL's programs seek to develop in our students the ability to lead with a global vision, engage in inclusive leadership practices in all that we do, and engineer solutions that improve communities and organizations.

The director provides leadership, management, and strategic direction for the Minor in Global Engineering Leadership & ENES leadership courses, the TerrapinSTRONG onboarding for all newly admitted undergraduate engineering students, the Clark School of Engineering Madrid Study Center—our flagship study abroad program, the Comillas Visitor Research Training program, Clark Global Courses, Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP) initiative, and over 20 reciprocal semester international exchange programs and over five short-term abroad programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of program management experience with a minimum of 5 years of teaching or training in study abroad, leadership, or similar programs.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience supervising staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Experience with managing budgets and with revenue generation programs.
  • Ability to develop a vision for new programs and initiatives.
  • Ability to develop, implement and manage multiple, complex programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with college and campus administration, faculty, students, and international partners.

Salary: Salary range $125,000 to $140,000.

Physical Demands:

  • Performs sedentary work.
  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended time and operate standard office equipment and keyboards.
  • Visual acuity to read data on reports and computer screens and to perform activities such as preparing data and figures and extensive reading.
  • At events, there is some need to set up and take down light materials such as literature, signs, etc.
  • Traverse on and off campus for events and meetings and transport supplies and materials.
  • Occasional national and international travel (approximately 10%) and evening and weekend work is required.
