If you are a current Barnard College employee, please use the internal career site to apply for this position.Job:Director, Planned GivingJob Summary:Reporting to the Senior Director, Planned Giving, the Director, Planned Giving will play a leadership role in all activities related to the development and implementation of strategies for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting annual/major/principal and planned giving prospects. The Director, Planned Giving, will directly supervise an Administrative Assistant.Job Description:
  • Under the direction of the Senior Director, Planned Giving, work with external agency on developing and executing the College's multitude of planned giving and smart-giving vehicles; and work with Development and Alumnae Relations Communications in crafting and producing internally-developed collateral marketing material, including Reunion and Giving Day emails and appeals.
  • Provide supervision of the Planned Giving Administrative Assistant.
  • Integrate planned giving in Reunion and other Special Campaigns, with strategy set by the Senior Director, Planned Giving.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospective donors of planned and major gifts; manage a portfolio of major/principal and planned giving prospects; and respond to donor inquiries.
  • Collaborate with Senior Director, Planned Giving, and/or Senior Leadership and gift officers in reaching out for leadership principal or major gifts.
  • Partner with other frontline fundraisers to support incorporation of planned giving into donor cultivation and solicitation strategies and serve as a resource for planned giving matters and gift conversations.
  • Develop the planned giving prospect pipeline by coordinating assistance and outreach by gift officers to assigned survey respondents and marketing responses; tracking requests; responding to unassigned survey respondents and marketing responses.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director, Planned Giving, to identify major/principal and planned giving donors; help further develop and implement strategic fundraising plans for planned giving.
  • Provide comprehensive proposals and responses to donor and professional advisor inquiries relating to planned gifts and other areas of support for the College (requires proficiency in PG Calc software program).
  • Works with the Senior Director, Planned Giving to train and educate gift officers and the department in planned giving best practices and emerging trends.
  • Carry out Athena Society activities as assigned under the direction of the Senior Director, Planned Giving, with the help of the Administrative Assistant (including assisting in planning events for Reunion and educational webinars).
  • Assist in administration including, but not limited to: estate administration, planned gift processing, administration for life income program, UK Trust administration, CGA compliance and registrations.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy, including by requesting donor data lists and reports, updating coding, and adding opportunities and activity reports; and reporting and resolving issues in PG opportunities or other planned gift related data.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent oral, written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the principles of fundraising and understanding of commonly used gift planning strategies.
  • Proven track record of closing major planned gifts.
  • Ability to stay up to date with and understand tax and legislative changes which impact donors.
  • Ability to deal with the public with patience, diplomacy, and tact.
  • Highly skilled at negotiation, critical thinking, and data analysis.
  • Confidence and poise to work effectively with individuals of significant wealth.
  • Ability to adhere strictly to rules regarding confidential information; highest degree of integrity, initiative, and resilience.
  • Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours including some weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment; collegial work style.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the values and mission of Barnard College and higher education, as well as an understanding of the principles and techniques of fundraising and alumni/ae engagement.
  • Must meet the department's core values of collaboration, aspiration, transparency, respect, accountability, and trust.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Minimum 7 5 years of related experience, preferably in higher education.
  • Demonstrated track record of developing long-lasting and productive relationships between individual donors and/or investors and the institutions they support.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or other similar CRM systems/relational databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in externally-facing position in client/customer service.
  • Experience with PG Calc software program.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform customary office tasks such as computing and answering telephone for moderate to prolonged periods of time combined with light to moderate reaching, bending and lifting.
Additional Information:
  • This job is currently a hybrid position and may require a presence in the office up to five times a week, including for team and full staff meetings and other times as directed by the supervisor.

Salary Range: $105,000 - $115,000 annuallyThe salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
