Job Details

The Director of Plant Operations, under the direction of the COO, is responsible for planning, communication, facilitation, oversight and coordination of the preventive maintenance, repairs, improvements, renovation, new construction and presentation of all buildings and grounds. This position manages assigned staff engaged in building and/or equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities of the Director of Plant Operations include:

* Develop strategic goals and objectives for the department. Establish, implement and revise policies, procedures and standards.

* Works to create an environment that fosters individual respect and encourages employees to contribute their talents to the goals of the department and St Joseph Hospital.

* Prepares annual department budget as per St Joseph Hospital policy.

* Directs overall supervision for the functions and activities of in-house renovation projects, engineering, and maintenance. Develops short and long-term goals and objectives for the department. Develops, implements, administers and modifies programs to maintain the physical plant, grounds and equipment of the hospital through effective utilization of personnel and materials.

* Implements cost-effective measures in operation of the facility.

* Participates in the planning and conceptualization of hospital building plans, reconstruction activities and alterations.

* Keeps the COO informed of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to staff, patients, visitors or physicians.

* Ensures compliance with all safety, incident reporting and infection control policies. Makes regular tours of engineering/physical facilities in order to personally observe the environment and relate to all levels of staff in a caring respectful manner.

* Implements the Engineering Department's quality review activities demonstrated by compliance with the St Joseph's Hospital Quality Assurance Program, JCAHO and other regulatory requirements.

* Supports capital development team for renovation and major modernization projects at St. Joseph Hospital.

* Provides strategic direction to tactical implementation teams through internal and external approvals. Provides project management support as required.

* Sequences improvements to align with strategic priorities, business and regulatory processes, and implementation plans.

* Identify develop and facilitate programs, projects, behavior change campaigns, and to design and deliver interventions internally and in some cases with external partners. Projects will include but not be limited to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and general equipment lifecycle replacement.

* Develop and implement specific energy strategy/solutions for new build and refurbishment projects and to improve the Energy Performance to achieve carbon reduction targets. Review energy efficiency and drive long-term savings, through delivery of energy projects, such as but not limited to solar PV, heat networks, offsetting, lighting, Building Energy Management Systems (BEMs) etc.

* Maintain good employee and labor relations. Resolve staff grievances.

* Prepare and recommend department budget and ensure that department operates within allocated funds.

* Develop and maintain job descriptions for all staff members. Maintain personnel records.

* Demonstrates knowledge and compliance to all regulatory agency privacy standards (e.g. Hospital, HIPAA, JCAHO).

Requirements for the Director of Plant Operations position include:

* Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, finance, engineering or related field

* Five years of experience in healthcare engineering and operations, knowledge of hospital systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, proven project management skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, working knowledge of Auto-Cad

* Experience in energy sector, particularly with natural gas or alternative fuels, knowledge of total building systems in Healthcare, proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

* Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) preferred.

* Experience relating to OSHA and Joint Commission surveys

Salary Range

USD $145,000.00 - USD $164,000.00 /Yr.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.

The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
