Job Description:

Job Purpose

The Director, PMO role at Progress Rail reports to the SVP, Product & Program Management, and has overall responsibility for program management for the Locomotive Division. This position requires deep understanding of program management fundamentals including gate process, reporting, business operating cycle, resource planning, manufacturing, etc. This position will be responsible for ensuring that locomotive and modernization programs meet financial targets and schedule.

Education / Training

* The position requires a college or university degree in engineering or business or equivalent experience;

* Advanced degree preferred.

Key Job Elements

Responsible for:

* Developing standardized program processes for delivering project objectives;

* Implementing reporting process that incorporates cross functional metrics;

* Building a competency model and training program for department;

* Coordinating with cross functional teams to implement processes across departments to align with delivering programs;

* Engaging with Customers as an escalation point on project status and updates as required;

* Working with inquiry and sales to ensure proposal and contracts align with the businesses ability to deliver on project objectives;

* Using problem solving skills resolve cross functional challenges related to program deliverables;

* Travel as required.

Qualifications and Experience

* Thorough knowledge of locomotive products and product applications, and government and legal issues; affecting market access and global markets;

* Minimum of 13 to 15 years of progressively responsible job-related experience;

* Well developed human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside the department;

* Demonstrated strong technical aptitude; creativity, sense of technical balance, general understanding of how locomotive technologies work;

* Demonstrated negotiation and facilitation skills;

* PMP certification or knowledge of program management skills;

* Ability to travel as required.

Essential and Physical Activities Functions

* Strength - Position typically involves extended travel and office type environment. Employees will be exposed to the industrial environment on a regular occasion but will not be performing work in that environment. Frequently standing, sitting, and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting (up to thirty pounds);

* Motion - Position regularly requires standard motions associated with on office environment Occasional reaching, handling, pulling, stooping, carrying, kneeling, crouching;

* Vision/Hearing Requirements - Constant verbal communications, including both talking and hearing in both an office and industrial environment;

* Work Environment - This is typically an office position with occasion to frequent time spent with customers, vendors, and others in an industrial setting;

* Emotional Demands - Very high level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant people skills while sustaining very high standards in a high-performance work team;

* Safety - Position is not safety sensitive. Position will require the use of Personal Protective Equipment when in any industrial environment that typically runs from hearing, eye, and foot protection. PPE is dependent on Progress Rail Location and customer requirements. Position may involve work in a non-temperature-controlled environment with occupational exposure to machinery, cutting and welding processes, and material handling equipment and cranes.
