We are looking for an experienced, effective, and technically savvy leader to advance Tract's capabilities in developing co-located datacenter power solutions, assessing the capabilities of and building partnerships with third party power generation vendors, and owning the long term development of a datacenter power generation offering for our customers.

Position Specific Description:

The Director Power Generation Engineering is a critical role responsible for technical leadership and oversight in the development and execution of energy projects to serve our datacenter customers. This role will require focus on and knowledge of renewable energy technologies (solar, BESS) and traditional thermal power generation technologies).

The Director Power Generation Engineering will be central point of contact and accountability for energy project proposal development, estimation, vendor selection, construction project management, commissioning, operations and maintenance and coordination across the teams (including permitting and environmental compliance, transmission interconnection, land development, construction, utility development and others) required to deliver power projects for our customers.

The Director Power Generation Engineering will ensure that power solutions (renewable or thermal) developed by Tract or procured from a third party will deliver on guaranteed reliability, availability and costs, and also on the requirements of our hyperscale datacenter customers, enabling faster speed to market and new alternatives to secure power in the markets we operate.

To accomplish this, the Director Power Generation Engineering will work to clearly understand customer requirements, propose power generation alternatives that recognize the unique characteristics (environmental, regulatory, feedstock viability) of the markets Tract operates within, build internal buy-in and alignment, and execute power development activities.

Responsibilities:

The Director Power Generation Engineering will have the following primary functional responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Expertise:
  • Collect and define key end customer specifications
  • Develop conceptual specifications and technology assessments for generation technologies and systems
  • Conduct energy modeling and yield assessments
  • Evaluate third-party energy models and technical documents
  • Lead technical reviews of engineering packages and commissioning documents
  • Provide technical guidance for site configuration and equipment selection

  • Project Development & Management:
  • Creatively translate customer specifications and market realities into proposed end-state solution
  • Formulate project proposals and budgets
  • Manage project execution, coordination, schedule, and compliance
  • Oversee external engineering consultants
  • Provide technical support to operations staff

  • Leadership & Communication:
  • Coordinate with Independent Engineers
  • Offer technical support to land strategy teams in pre-purchase (diligence) activities
  • Negotiate commercial terms and conditions with third party vendors
  • Foster strong relationships with clients and stakeholders

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering or related technical field; Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in relevant engineering and project management roles
  • Proficiency in energy modeling software and project management tools
  • Strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in renewable energy project development
  • Desired Qualifications:

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license
    • Familiarity with utility-scale power generation construction practices
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
    • Experience in traditional (thermal) energy project development
    • Experience managing EPC contracts

    Expected Salary Range: $175-225K Base plus Annual Bonus
