About the team

The Justworks Product team advances our mission by building products that extend levels of personal care and deep expertise that our customers have never experienced before. They craft innovative solutions that guide users through the most complicated challenges of running (and working for) a small business, with ease. They deeply understand complex regulatory spaces like FinTech, Healthcare, and HRTech, and have a keen intuition for how to connect threads across our customers' needs and our business' risk management and commercialization strategy. Our Product Managers lead highly collaborative creative endeavors, bringing together stakeholders across engineering, design, data services, operations, and customer-facing teams to deliver tangible value.

We're looking for teammates who will help shape Justworks' future and make a profound impact on our business. You'll be working across complex spaces including Fintech, Healthcare, HR Tech, all with serious policy/regulatory environments. This will require you to have a keen intuition for customer needs, risk management, and commercialization. About the role / Here's what you'll do day-to-day

Our Payroll and Tax team's mission is to enable Justworks to serve more small businesses by (1) giving customers more options for how and when they pay their teams and manage compliance, and (2) scaling our internal platforms and tooling to support a growing customer base across all Justworks products. We focus on simplifying complex payroll and tax regulations and streamlining the most tedious and complex administrative tasks associated with payroll and reporting so that small businesses can focus on running their business. This includes ensuring that we efficiently run payroll and set up, deposit, and file taxes for 200,000+ individuals efficiently and accurately.

As a Director of Product, you'll lead several teams with high-impact missions that collectively represent a significant part of our overall product suite. You'll oversee multiple complex bodies of work and initiatives by establishing rigorous financial processes for forecasting, reporting, and analyzing product results. By closely partnering with our internal business units, customer-facing teams, and operations, you'll continually refine and strengthen strategies within your scope.

While you're adept at executional excellence in product management, you'll spend much of your time teaching, coaching, and managing a large part of our product management organization. You'll be responsible for building the systems that enable us to consistently create great products across an expanding and increasingly complex product and regulatory landscape. Directors are recognized as leaders throughout the organization more broadly.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop diverse teams by overseeing hiring, performance, and growth to advance team members.
  • Mentor Product Managers in technical collaboration, coaching them to understand and communicate engineering concepts.
  • Oversee the PDLC, adapting processes to fit team and business needs while maintaining customer-centricity, governance, and quality.
  • Influence decision making and organizational trajectory to deliver high-impact products that offer sustained competitive advantage.
  • Lead and coach high-level business analysis and strategy that integrates feedback from internal teams and external experts.
  • Leverage your intuition and experience to influence nuanced product, policy, and business decisions.
  • Partner with Engineering on long-term architecture and quickly adopt new technologies to build modern, scalable products.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years of product development leadership in a modern technology business.
  • Extensive experience in product management, with a proven track record of leading and developing high-performing product teams.
  • Proven ability in hiring, performance management, and development of world-class, diverse teams through hands-on coaching.
  • Experience in organizing teams and roles to achieve missions effectively and enhance team motivation.
  • Expertise in acting as an authority on the PDLC, maintaining high standards of customer-centricity, governance, and quality.
  • Proficient in effectively negotiating and arbitrating complex requirements, dependencies, and priorities across multiple missions.
  • Deep understanding of platform scalability and technological leverage in product development.
  • Experience at high-growth companies is preferred.
  • Experience building products in a highly regulated domain (e.g. fintech or healthcare) is a plus.

The base wage range for this position based in our New York City Office is targeted at $235,000.00 to $282,000.00 per year.
