Northland is powered by our people. What You'll Do: The Director of Project Development - New York is a key player in our Onshore development team. You'll lead project development activities for select ventures in Northland's North American portfolio, with a major focus on our pipeline in New York. This spans early development and greenfield activities to financing and start of construction. Frequent travel to project sites is required.
Key Responsibilities - Lead the permitting process, community outreach, and land acquisition for select renewable and storage projects, including negotiation of agreements that have a material impact on the project's economics.
- Support, empower and coordinate use of internal subject matter experts on interconnection, procurement, legal, cost estimating, project scheduling, project design, project finance and financial analysis.
- Manage third-party contractors (e.g., permitting, environmental, technical) for various workstreams in order to deliver a fully developed project.
- Lead the process for submissions of RFQs, RFPs and auctions for project offtake while collaborating with the broader development, origination, construction, and engineering teams.
- Create and track project development plans and budgets for development projects and manage project progress towards task deadlines while identifying critical path challenges, project resource constraints and requirements.
- Work with the Project Management Office on creating a project development plan and a stage gate model.
- Gather relevant information to identify risks on projects and subsequently prepare and propose mitigation measures to resolve.
- Monitor and manage key policy developments that impact projects, involvement with trade associations.
- Lead greenfield activities that may get assigned to you from time to time.
- Assist in conducting due diligence for potential acquisition opportunities.

- Commercial experience: You have experience in and the desire to negotiate a set of conditions or commercial terms with a counterparty, whether it be a supplier, buyer or regulatory body, and to quantify the impact of that negotiation outcome on the project's economics.

- Process and project management oriented: you are organized and thorough in providing structure to projects and experienced in connecting multiple stakeholders together with aligned interest.
- Diligent: Your solid attention to detail will ensure that project documentation is accurate. You will follow up with others where needed to ensure outstanding information or actions are complete.
- A strong communicator: You have exceptional oral and written communication skills and are able to convey your message in a clear and concise manner.
Qualifications and Experience - Completed University bachelor's degree.
- Relevant graduate-level training, such as law, engineering, MBA or other master's degree is preferred.
- 5-8+ years of direct project development experience in renewables and storage. Previous experience in New York is preferred.
- Strong understanding and experience in the project development process from land acquisition, to permitting through to financing and start of construction.
- Ability to lead a project team to achieve project objectives and key milestones
- Working knowledge of environmental and regulatory permit compliance and restrictions.
