All project support roles (PR & PM) report thru the Project Director.The Project Director works with minimal over site by supervision and represents the business line during the conception, design and execution of major capital investments. In addition, this position also participates in or leads strategic (global) project initiatives within the BL.The Project Director is responsible for coordinating the duties of the PR and PM. The Project Director is responsible for legal approvals for the planned units and their operation during the design and start-up phases of the investment. This includes all matters of occupational safety, plant safety concept, environmental protection and product safety for the investment. The incumbent has to ensure that all activities associated with the investment are in accordance with accepted good engineering practices, governmental regulations, cGMP and Evonik Corporation policies and standards.RESPONSIBILITIES* Supporting the division heads in preparing cooperation agreements and agreements in strategic partnership* Initiating and analyzing logistic studies and availability searches for raw materials, utilities, infrastructure, service providers, and specialists* Building up a project organization, putting together the project team, and developing teamwork together with Project Responsibles and Project Managers* Creating a master project schedule* Planning and organizing the resources needed to execute the project* Arranging for the profitability calculation* Ensuring variance analysis is completed in a timely fashion in order to understand the financial implications these deviations may have on cost projections and time schedules Planning stakeholder management* Arranging for a steering team committee to be designated and regular meetings occur* Ensuring an overall procurement strategy is generated* Controlling the overall project progression and organizing the meetings and audits that are required for this purpose Ensuring compliance with corporate and divisional specifications relevant to this project* Setting up a structured system of project responsibilities and communication within the project and business environment* Coordinate the duties of the PR's and PM's. Establish goals and effectively communicate direction, objectives, and results for capital projects.* Elaborate and implement a strategic vision for capital investments.* Work with peers across areas to share key learnings as needed* Hold teams and individuals accountable for action plan timelines and results.REQUIREMENTS* Bachelor Degree in Engineering or relevant field and 10 - 20 years plant experience.* Strong communication and organizational skills with emphasis on oral and written communication are essential to be able to influence groups without having direct supervisory responsibility.* Possess a broad knowledge of plant design, production, project management, policies and standards.* Possess further business knowledge to be a sought out resource for projects off site.* Possess expertise in relevant industry standards (i.e. ISPE, ASME, etc.)* Demonstrated technical, analytical, and problem solving skills, including skills to successfully overcoming challenges and identifying opportunities for improvements. Leadership skills and a take-charge attitude are important qualities for the incumbent.* Presentation and justification of engineering aspects to the site and business line.* Capable of directing projects in excess of 100 MM USD.* Experience in chemical or pharmaceutical processing equipment/ unit operations* Strong computer skills in a variety of software packages (MS Office, SAP)The Evonik Group adopts an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) approach.
