DESCRIPTION

Successful customer outcomes requires strategic advising and scoping, technical oversight, and long-term customer relationship management. The AWS ProServe team is seeking a Director, Energy & Utilities to lead the Global Energy Professional Services Practice. The successful candidate will lead a team of global AWS energy experts to sell professional services and deliver business outcomes for our Global Energy Account customers. They will have a strong combination of relevant industry and technical experience plus exceptional customer leadership skills. They will be an agile learner and effective coach. As part of the Global Specialty Practice function they will collaborate with multiple AWS engineering teams to introduce and refine new platform web services for the largest enterprises. In addition, they will harvest, package and publish energy industry best practices and repeatable offerings to the broader ProServe team and to AWS partners to accelerate the customer's adoption of the AWS platform.

The ideal candidate must have domain expertise in Energy & Utilities (i.e. Oil & Gas, Renewables, Mining, Chemicals, Utilities) They will work effectively across a matrixed organization and lead global teams at scale. This leader will be a trusted advisor to CxOs with a successful track record of selling/positioning consulting work. They will have the technical savvy and ability to distill and sell complex solutions to both technical and non-technical customers and partners. The successful candidate will also bring a high-level of gravitas, astute judgment, and effective influencing and people leadership skills. They will have organizational strategy and prior experience managing a large organization.

Key job responsibilities

* Engage and deliver value to customers - Collaborate with sales leaders and engineering teams to drive strategic engagements and platform adoption for energy customers on the AWS platform. Provide leadership on various IT disciplines such as AWS architectures, cloud operations optimization, AWS migrations, security, and the integration of AWS services to enable breakthrough business outcomes for customers.

* Build and lead great teams - attract, hire, and develop high-performing go-to-market teams (ESM's, EM's, PM's, and industry architects) and delivery consultants to both effectively sell and deliver engagements to Energy customers worldwide.

* Develop partnerships - proactively develop industry solution maps for the energy specialty and engage the leading solution and service providers. Drive collaboration and integration between multiple partners to deliver comprehensive solutions for large enterprises.

* Learn and teach - Work with the global AWS Professional Services leadership team to hire, develop, train, and enable the AWS Specialty Practices delivering to energy customers. Work with the Specialty Practices to learn the newest platform services quickly. Support them in harvesting and publishing best practices to broader field and partner teams. Also, guide them to engage individual project teams and teach the implementation processes and skills related to their technical specialty.

* Make new markets - develop the engagement model for driving the design wins on AWS platform web services, to open new market segments and clear the way for cloud-based IT using AWS in the energy industry.

* Be a customer advocate - Work with AWS engineering service teams to convey deep technical requirements from partners and customers as input to AWS technology roadmaps.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

* Global consulting practice lead focused on customer engagement, sales, delivery, Partner management, and people development.

* Track record in delivering technology solutions to energy & utility enterprise customers through the scoping, selling and delivery of consulting services to enable technologies and cloud services.

* Experience in leading a Professional Services practice with P&L responsibility and a history of delivering against associated metrics (bookings, utilization, revenue, and margin.)

* Experience hiring and developing top-talent and managing distributed teams worldwide across technical and non-technical domains.

* Experience leading a large team and driving organizational strategy and driving a collaborative culture.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* Visible energy & utility industry (i.e. Oil & Gas, Renewables, Mining, Chemicals, Utility etc..) thought leadership on topics related to cloud-based enterprise IT

* Ability to work in an agile, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment.

* Experience with design of modern, scalable delivery models for technology consulting services.

* Business development experience including complex agreements w/ integrators and ISVs.

* Use of AWS services in distributed environments with Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, HP, SAP etc.

* Advanced degrees in engineering, computer science, and/or business.
