Job Posting End Date12-09-2024Please note the job posting will close on the day before the posting end dateJob Summary ***Candidates can reside anywhere in AEP service territory, but a preference for a Washington, DC. The Director will work with the Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Directors of Government Affairs to represent American Electric Power Corporation ( AEP ) and its operating companies both internally and externally. Internally, the Director will coordinate with internal subject matter experts and proactively develop policies beneficial to the company on matters relating to energy, tax, grid reliability, environment, climate, electric transmission, and other issues. The Director will work as a part of the Federal Affairs team to liaise internally with relevant policy teams to convey a consistent message to federal officials. The Director will also contribute to stakeholder engagement opportunities within the Federal Affairs team, such as providing policy briefs to members of Congress and federal branch officials.In addition to internal-facing responsibilities, the Director will advocate externally working with the federal government and Congressional delegation to further the goals, objectives and needs of the American Electric Power Corporation and its operating companies. The Director will also liaise with relevant trade groups and convey the company's priorities on relevant issues.Job DescriptionESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Help develop, organize and implement corporate policy and strategy for overall effective federal representation by working internally to develop policy positions on priority issue areas.Be responsive to the requests from the AEP congressional delegation and executive branch officials via the Directors of Federal Affairs by working internally with relevant policy teams to develop positions on priority issue areas.Be responsive to internal AEP requests and maintain strong working relationships with internal colleagues.Demonstrate the highest standards of ethical behavior and support the company's Corporate Compliance Policy.Prepare reports on legislative and regulatory activity in Washington, D.C., while gathering and helping to interpret all legislative and government information that might impact corporate business.Develop and maintain a broad base of knowledge regarding policies that are beneficial to the company.Represent the company in a professional manner before Congress, regulatory agencies, trade associations (e.g., Edison Electric Institute, Nuclear Energy Institute, Business Roundtable, American Clean Power Association), ad hoc legislative, regulatory focused groups and public policy organizations.Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Education:Bachelor's degree in public policy, public relations, communications or other related disciplines.Work Experience:Minimum 6 years' experience in community/public affairs, communications or direct related experience in the industry. Or a minimum 6 years' experience with the state/federal legislature, state/federal government or comparable state/federal work.OTHER REQUIREMENTS:Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.Physical demand level is Sedentary.Hybrid work environment (three days in the office and two days working from home).Compensation DataCompensation Grade:SP20-011Compensation Range:$152,707.00-198,520.00 USDHear about it first!
