Job Description:

This job is a hybrid position 3 days per week. It can be based in Tarrytown, NY or Basking Ridge, NJ. If based in Basking Ridge, the candidate must be able to be on-site in Tarrytown at least 1 day per week and for any critical meetings.

The Director, Portfolio Management will report directly to the Executive Director, Portfolio Management, and will be a client-facing position, supporting Clinical Development Unit Heads within the R&D organization on matters related to portfolio and project management and enabling operational processes/systems. The Director will have responsibility for integrating the Development portfolio of post-research assets through lifecycle management to enable efficient portfolio decision making by executive leadership.

In a typical day you will:

  • Partner with Global Program Heads (GPHs) and key functional leaders to ensure data enabled, timely portfolio and asset level decision making with key inputs from Research, Development, Manufacturing and Commercial.
  • Identify and champion best practices for Portfolio and Asset Development processes, including qualitative and quantitative methods for decision-making, and the use of dashboards, templates, tools, systems and processes to drive efficiency, alignment, decision making, and communication - all leading to effective product planning and delivery.
  • Leverage Program and organizational knowledge, leadership, and facilitation skills to enable Program and Portfolio Management Teams to drive alignment, collaboration, and accountability within the teams and across corporate functions resulting in achievement of company and program goals.
  • Play an integral role in portfolio level program planning, including cross-functional resource planning, financial, and capacity assessments; contribute to long-range and budgetary planning.
  • Ensure effective communication of Program and Portfolio Management information to the broader organization.
  • Demonstrate initiative in improving the communication and reporting of the R&D programs/projects in partnership with executives and functional leaders, including developing and delivering dashboards and program and portfolio reviews to Clinical Development Unit Heads, key business partners, and the Board of Directors. Examples of such communications include pipeline content, portfolio metrics, and development and portfolio reporting across all Therapeutic Areas (TAs).

To be considered you must have:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, science/technology, or related field and 12+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry experience and a minimum of three years in program, portfolio and/or alliance management (or equivalent management consulting experience). An advanced degree strongly preferred - MS/PhD or MBA with experience working within a science-based life sciences organization
  • Extensive knowledge of research and development and thorough understanding of the tasks required in all stages of drug development.
  • A strong understanding of the people, processes and infrastructure involved in the drug development lifecycle.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Program and Portfolio planning methods and techniques.
  • Have demonstrated ability to develop and implement portfolio deliverables including portfolio reporting, benchmarking, analytics, data visualization, decision analysis, and prioritization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong communicator and doer within all levels of the organization.
  • . Advanced skills with Excel and PowerPoint is required. Advanced knowledge of MS Project, Planisware, and/or other project and portfolio planning and tracking software programs (e.g., Planview Advisor) is a plus.

Salary Range (annually)

$176,900.00 - $294,800.00
