We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Director Safety & Security to join our Risk Management & Safety department. The Director Safety & Security will be responsible for protecting life and property of all persons on Christian Health premises and patrols Christian Health buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft and vandalism. Secures, unlocks and protects Christian Health buildings. Oversee Security operations on all Christian Health communities and campuses. Provide video surveillance and electronic access reports as necessary to appropriate leaders. Conduct staff education for emergency response and ensures all policies are updated and within regulatory compliance. Oversee emergency management operations. Oversee staff key inventory, fob / badge access, and video surveillance systems in all Christian Health locations. Monitor and enforce traffic on all Christian Health communities and campuses and assist with organizing traffic control for projects and events. Serve as a liaison for local and county emergency responders. Educate staff in fire safety and emergency response. Track, trend, observe and make recommendations to safety and security concerns discovered at all Christian Health communities and campuses. Oversee the HICS committee and ensure appropriate response for emergencies. Demonstrates an understanding of, and embraces, the mission of Christian Health.

Competencies:
  • Develop and enforce consistent safety and security standards across all communities and campuses. Create comprehensive safety and security plans for special events and maintain a visible deterrence to crime through regular patrolling of buildings and grounds.
  • Implement, monitor, and maintain security systems, including video surveillance and electronic access controls, ensuring their optimal functionality.
  • Ensure adherence to ID badge policies and other security protocols, conducting regular audits to maintain compliance.
  • Respond efficiently to emergency codes and requests, coordinate fire-watch procedures, and conduct and evaluate fire and disaster drills to ensure readiness and compliance.
  • Oversee and manage security personnel, including scheduling, guidance, and supervision. Ensure adequate staffing and coverage for all shifts.
  • Conduct shift briefings, facilitate ongoing training and orientation for security staff, and serve as a secondary trainer for workplace violence and CNA updates.
  • Respond promptly to emergency codes and security requests, ensuring swift and effective resolution.
  • Collaborate with local responders for event planning and drills, ensuring seamless integration of security measures with local emergency services.
  • Direct security operations during emergencies and disasters, acting as the Site Representative to manage and coordinate with responders.
  • Provide staff accommodations and transportation during emergencies to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and security regulations, including the NJ Fire Code and Environment of Care standards.
  • Maintain and update fire extinguisher inspection sheets, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and security-related policies and procedures, including the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) and Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP).
  • Collect, track, and analyze data on security incidents. Report findings to relevant committees and safety rounds to support continuous improvement.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of security incidents to identify root causes and develop preventive measures, working collaboratively with clinicians, the Risk Manager, and supervisors to ensure accurate reporting and resolution.
  • Coordinate inspections and drills, and assess reports on fire safety, medical waste, and alarm systems. Present findings to relevant leaders and committees.
  • Serve on safety-related committees, including Patient Safety, HICS, and Safety Sub-committee, contributing to the development and implementation of safety initiatives.
  • Act as a liaison to local emergency responders, working with stakeholders to ensure effective safety measures, including signage and road closures during events and emergencies. Coordinate with Plant Operations for inspections and emergency responses.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive safety programs and protocols for all facilities, including newly acquired facilities and programs, focusing on emergency preparedness and incident response.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements in security and safety systems. Evaluate and integrate new technologies to enhance facility safety and efficiency.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations and local agencies to support safety initiatives and foster a collaborative approach to community safety.
  • Implement a continuous improvement process for safety and security practices. Regularly review and update protocols based on feedback, incidents, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee and manage the budget for safety and security operations, including planning for expenditures related to security systems, training, and personnel.
  • Develop long-term safety and security strategies aligned with organizational goals, considering emerging risks and trends.
Schedule:

9:00am-5:00pm, Monday-Friday.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, safety management or related field required. Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Physical Security Professional (PSP) certifications strongly preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Demonstrates compliance with the CH ASPIRE Standards of Performance.

Qualifications:

  • Three to five years' experience in the field of security management experience required preferably in a health care.
  • Criminal justice background with traffic control experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, safety management or related field required.
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Physical Security Professional (PSP) certifications strongly preferred.
