JOB OVERVIEW Job Description Summary: The George Washington's School of Nursing (GW Nursing) drives innovation and improvements in health care worldwide through the education of compassionate nurses, esteemed educators and researchers, entrepreneurial leaders, and influential policy experts.The Office of Student Services of GW's School of Nursing is responsible for maintaining electronic records for student academic history, registration, course scheduling, graduation clearance, etc., and for the development/implementation of student events, scholarships, career services, etc.The Office of Student Services has three main focus areas: Student Engagement; Academic Advising, and Academic enhancement (testing and tutoring). The Student Engagement focus area ensures that the school provides events and services to engage students in the GW Nursing culture. The Advising focus area ensures that students are provided the requisite registration and course information to stay on their graduation timeline. The Academic enhancement focus area ensures that student testing tutoring support is provided to maximize the academic goals of participating students.The Office of Student Services is searching for a Director, Student Services, to provide leadership, plan, organize, and manage all of the activities related to the student services focal areas, including serving as the official authorized keeper of the GW Nursing student records. This position plays a key role in student retention and success and is accountable for ensuring that GW Nursing meets key strategic retention goals.This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Enrollment and Success and is a vital member of the Enrollment Management and Student Services (EMSS) team, tasked with managing the student services office and executing key strategies, which include:
- Providing leadership, management, and professional development for all Student Services staff members, including peer tutors and student workers.
- Developing and implementing a student retention strategy and a strategic plan for the student services office. Organizing and administering the records, registration, graduation, and student services functions, including graduation clearances, transfer credit processing, academic standing reporting, and student events in order to provide maximum service to students while ensuring efficient and effective workflow.
- Developing and communicating student services policies to internal/external stakeholders. Advising administrators, deans, faculty, IT, and counselors on how to facilitate and improve services to students, including orientation, events, and registration/records policy questions.
- Communication and special event (commencement, special ceremonies) planning management and timelines.
- Developing strategies for researching, analyzing, and resolving student disputes as they relate to records, registration, and student services.
- Data creation and reporting.
- Developing and implementing academic integrity measures as it relates to student information; compliance with Higher Education Federal Law, University Policy, and School Policy.
- Providing leadership and developing appropriate recommendations for implementing related technology applications in support of enhanced services offered through Registration and Records.
- Participating in professional development activities and serving on college committees that support the goals and objectives of GW Nursing.
- Performs other related duties as assigned, which will be varied and substantial given the significance of this role within GW Nursing and the University.
Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 8 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 6 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
