Job TitleDirector, Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through AgricultureAgencyTexas A&M Agrilife ResearchDepartmentResearch Director ManagementProposed Minimum SalaryCommensurateJob LocationCollege Station, TexasJob TypeStaffJob DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARYTitle: Director, Texas A&M AgriLife Institute for Advancing Health Through AgricultureAppointment: 12 monthsReports To: Director, Texas A&M AgriLife ResearchLocation: Norman Borlaug Building, Texas A&M University, Bryan-College StationThe IHA Director will provide leadership in the three focal areas by capitalizing on expertise within TAMU, TAMUS and USDA partners, as well as key state and national stakeholders to address existing and emerging health issues such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's, and other chronic diseases through research and outreach. The Director will provide leadership, management, and administration of IHA, including sponsored and non-sponsored project accounts, public relations, and personnel to advance the mission of IHA and associated programs throughout TAMUS and external partnerships.The Director will lead a talented team of more than 60 scientists, support staff, graduate students and post-doctoral trainees located across Texas in coordination with other USDA-funded centers that focus on health and associated agricultural needs and policies, including:•Development and actualization of vision and mission statements for the IHA.•Development of collaborative relationships and opportunities for members of IHA that enhance teaching, research, and extension missions.•Management of human and fiscal resources;•Leadership for acquisition of internal and external resources that support the mission of IHA.•Represent IHA to local, state, and federal agencies, private organizations, other partners, collaborators, key industry groups, and international organizations.Required Education and ExperienceThe successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or equivalent in one or more nutrition-based health or agriculture-related fields, and at least 10 years of direct experience, as well as a documented record of leadership in administration as well as in research, teaching, and outreach. The Director will also engage with stakeholder groups, identify critical issues, and lead efforts to fund research and extension activities of the IHA that bring resolution to how agriculture and nutrition can be leveraged to reduce diet-related chronic disease in Texas and the world.Preferred Education and Experience•Scholarly accomplishments such as invitations to prestigious panels, publications with high citation indexes, grants funded and other relevant metrics.•A Ph.D., or other applicable terminal degree in nutrition-based health issues or agriculture-related field, engineering, science, law, policy, government or management, and 10 years of post-graduate job-related experience.•Knowledge of the Land Grant University System and a track record using research extension to solve problems convey practical solutions stakeholders.•Demonstrated experience in managing conflicting interests to achieve accepted practices among groups (e.g., stakeholders; trade associations; state and/or federal agencies; non-governmental organizations).•Nationally (e.g. National Academy of Medicine or Sciences) recognized expertise in nutrition-based health issues agriculture-related field, with a documented record distinction.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities•Excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills.•Interpersonal skills for effective communication with entities within IHA, TAMU and TAMUS, as well as stakeholders.•Ability to manage and support multidisciplinary and interagency teams.•Leadership skills to inspire and recognize successes of members of IHA.•Experience in fundraising and grantsmanship.•Ability to coordinate with broad-based partners and stakeholders locally, nationally, and internationally.•Ability to represent TAMU/TAMUS and IHA to legislative and regulatory agencies as a trusted source of expertise in nutrition, agriculture and health.Application RequirementsAn application should contain: 1.
