The George Washington University Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) Division is seeking a Director, Volunteer Leadership Engagement for Health and Medicine. DAR is responsible for leading the university's external constituent and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients and other friends.
Our goal is to advance GW's mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care. The Director, Volunteer Leadership Engagement for Health and Medicine is a key leadership position within the Health and Medicine Development Team, which represents the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Nursing and Public Health, and the DAR's Volunteer Engagement team. This position works in close partnership with the Associate Vice President of Development, Health & Medicine, and the university's Executive Director of Volunteer Leadership Engagement to reshape and build leadership volunteer structure and volunteerism within the Health and Medicine enterprise including building strong volunteer councils with members who have influence and affluence. These efforts are an integral component to achieving aspirational fundraising goals and strengthening the pipeline for the university's next comprehensive campaign.
As members of the Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR), we all work together to advance its mission to serve all constituencies of the university through alumni, grateful patient and donor engagement.
Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President and Chief Development Officer, Health & Medicine, with strong coordination and cooperation with the Executive Director of Volunteer Leadership this position:
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master's degree in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Progressive experience (four to six years) in institutional advancement in higher education, preferably in complex academic and research institutions. Exceptional communication skills and outstanding writing competences with an attention to details. Desire and ability to work as part of a team and willingness to collaborate with stakeholders across campus. Ability to work some evenings and weekends. Demonstrated understanding of the fields of medicine, nursing and/or public health. Ability to travel domestically, and possibly internationally, for prospect visits and events.
