Position Summary: Interstate Earthworks, LLC is looking for an experienced Dirt-Work Salesman and Estimator. The Dirt-Work Salesman and Estimator will be responsible for establishing new clients and work opportunities, referral clients, outside/inside sales and sales closing for residential and commercial projects. Preparing cost estimates and budgets for dirt-work construction projects, analyzing blueprints and other construction documents, and working with clients and project managers to ensure that proposals are completed on schedule. The Dirt-Work Salesman and Estimator will be responsible for overseeing projects from start to finish, ensuring that work is completed to company standards and client expectations along with closing the deal on sales.Key Roles / Responsibilities:
- Actively pursue future customers/additional work and follow up on potential leads.
- Thoroughly read plans and specifications and review for accurate scope of work and means & methods assessment.
- Review work requirements with local operations management.
- Research and define cost elements related to project construction including labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.
- Identify risks and develop project contingencies.
- Prepare a written proposal outlining clarifications, exceptions, and assumptions presenting the final draft to upper management for final determination and risk assessment.
- Submit the approved final bid to the customer by the stated due date.
- Maintain open lines of communication with existing customers.
- Attain a thorough understanding of the scope of work including desired construction methods, project timelines, and customer expectations.
- Ask project-related questions and record customer response.
- Visit the job location to assess site conditions and assess constructability.
- Provide job-related documentation to field operations, project management staff, and back office/administrative staff as needed.
- Assist field personnel in developing and/or recommending change orders as needed.
- Negotiate positive resolutions with the customer on any disputes that may arise.
- Maintain files as a backup for estimated figures.
- All other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Must have 5 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field preferred.
- Must be an expert in MS Office Applications: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint.
- Must have organizational skills (notes, files, documents, etc.).
- Must be proficient in Technical Writing/Correspondence.
- Must have the ability to work independently on assigned tasks with minimum guidance.
- Must have the ability to work as a team member.
- Must be self-motivated.
- Must be a thorough and effective communicator.
- Must be familiar with large residential, commercial, and industrial dirt-work construction projects.
- Must be productive.
- Must be open to change.
- Must have the ability to develop and maintain relationships.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Positions self to install equipment, including under desks.
- Moves throughout the building to access files.
- Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting stand, walk, kneel, stoop, squat, pull, push, climb, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and see and standing (occasionally) for long periods of time.
- The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
- Must be able to position oneself to work in confined spaces such as trenches, pits, manholes, attics, and tunnels and demonstrate manual dexterity and be able to use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; and exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection and hard hats when needed.
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
- Must be able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
