When you join the KU Dining team, you join the Jayhawk family and a supportive group of colleagues that cares about you and your contributions.- .JOB SUMMARY: Performs lead helper duties in the Ekdahl Dining dishroom operation as a part of the Food Services Department. Replenishes serviceware; works in the dishroom; maintains quality and quantity control standards; assists in training part-time employees; cleans work area and equipment; sets up and closes down work area; performs other assignments as needed.SUPERVISION RECEIVED & GIVEN: Receives direct supervision from Supervisor Ekdahl Dining. Position is non-exempt from overtime.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Performs as the lead helper in operation of the Ekdahl Dining dishroom.2. Sets up and closes down work areas.3. Sets up, operates, and maintains equipment and facilities used in cleaning and warewashing. Washes and sanitizes serviceware using proper equipment and procedures. Regularly checks for proper washing and rinsing temperatures to protect against food-borne pathogens.4. Transports and restocks serviceware to proper locations in the kitchen and dining center during the day. Communicates needs for additional supplies and equipment in a timely manner to the senior custodial supervisor.5. Maintains a clean and sanitary work area/facility according to established guidelines and food safety procedures to guarantee a safe working environment. Stocks areas with cleaning and sanitizing solutions, equipment, and towels. Stores and/or disposes of supplies according to established procedures; including rotation, dating, and labeling of chemicals and supplies.6. Assists with training of part time, less-experienced staff.ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisory personnel including covering other work stations in absence of co-workers and assisting in other work areas after completing own tasks.2. Maintains and communicates food service dress code.3. Informs senior staff of equipment and/or other problems in the work area.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES & SKILLS: 1. Knowledge of materials, methods, usage and care of equipment used in washing service ware.2. Knowledge of health, sanitary, and safety standards and practices applied to food service.3. Ability to portray a friendly disposition and dedication to serve the general public.4. Ability to follow instructions and in turn train part-time employees.5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.6. Ability to perform above average physical requirements of food service work - stooping, bending, extensive walking, standing for long periods, and lifting up to 30 pounds.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. High School graduation.2. Modest experience in food service work.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Experience in a moderate to large food service operation.Full-time employment with the Union Corporation is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a background check prior to being able to begin work.
