Job Description:
Primary Purpose:First line of contact for all incoming phone calls and directs calls accordingly. Coordinate assignments and schedules of bus drivers, routes, and vehicles to ensure safe, efficient, and economical transportation services. Manages extra-curricular field trip requests from all schools. Collects all billing information for district wide extra-curricular trips including rentals. Schedules and assigns vehicles and drivers for all extra-curricular trips. Manages all transportation related emergency calls including accidents. Assist the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Transportation as needed. Drive bus as a substitute bus driver when needed.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High school diploma or GEDClass B CDL or Class A with Passenger Endorsement Texas Bus Driver CertificationSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Effective telephone and radio communication skillsAbility to receive and give verbal instructions effectivelyProficient map reading skillsBasic math skillsAbility to use a personal computer to do word processing, databases, and spreadsheetsAbility to use specialized computer programs dealing with transportation routing, planning, and trip scheduling.Ability to operate busExperience:5 years experience as certified school bus driverMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Routes and Schedules
  • Assist or handle assignments of bus drivers, bus routes, vehicles, and substitutes for morning and afternoon shifts.
  • 2. Coordinate extracurricular transportation for the district.
  • Help maintain data required to plan bus route and post route schedule.
  • Coordinate and schedule all summer school routes.
  • Write, schedule, and keep daily logs of activity.
  • Manages field trip requests from all schools in the district and ensures proper scheduling, driver and bus assignment.
  • Communication
  • Dispatch drivers and vehicles and communicate with them using a telephone and two-way radio.
  • Notify drivers, parents, and school personnel of any changes in a student's bus service, such as an address change, change in pick-up and drop-off location, change in time or bus change.
  • Maintain good public relations with community members, students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Communicate with students, parents, staff, and community about their complaints with drivers, buses, routes, and safety.
  • Communicate with lead drivers about route problems or concerns from parents, students, teachers, and coworkers.
  • Interact with special program administrators and school officials concerning transportation.
  • Help school place new students on buses and advise drivers of new or dismissed students.
  • Act as first line of contact will all local law enforcement agencies for accident and emergency reporting.
  • Vehicle Operation
  • Serve as substitute bus driver.

  • Maintain mileage records on extra-curricular trips for billing purposes.
  • Maintain daily log book and record of head count to facilitate writing, copying, and distribution of change notices to transportation personnel and schools.
  • Keep a daily log book and record all radio transmissions.
  • Maintain records on all drivers including extracurricular drivers pertaining to physicals, and driver certification.
  • Schedules all district employees for physicals renewal and for Bus Driver Certification or Recertification through Region 13.
  • Prepare various reports as required by the state, district, or department.
  • Post trips in trip book and send out confirmations.
  • Maintain logs on communication with pertinent personnel regarding confirmations, cancellations, and changes.
  • Must handle all student / employee records and information with confidentiality.
