Dispatcher II - Protective Services

Summary:
Provides essential dispatch communications. Responsible for maintaining effective and efficient communications between the dispatch center, officers, other department personnel, outside emergency and law enforcement agencies, and the public. Maintains records of Protective Services/Police related data; such as, LEADS/OHLEG, Lost & Found, Key logs, Etc. Issues keys, parking stickers, and parking permits. Processes, enters and retrieves employee data records in the Protective Services/Police computer system. The Dispatcher upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of Summa Health.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Formal Education Required:
a. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Experience & Training Required:
a. One (1) year related customer service experience which has provided skill in communicating/decision making under pressure, Police/Fire/EMS setting preferred.
OR
b. Possess one or more 9-1-1 Dispatcher Certifications, including, but not limited to National Emergency Communication Institute (NECI), Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO), Powerphone Law Enforcement Dispatch Certification, or Cuyahoga Community College Emergency Dispatcher Certificate.
3. Other skills, competencies, and qualifications:
a. Typing proficiency of thirty (30) words per minute.
b. Ability to obtain and maintain LEADS/OHLEG operator certification.
c. Ability to work under pressure.
d. Ability to communicate effectively with angry, emotional and excited persons via telephone or at the Dispatch window.
e. Ability to remain calm under high pressure, critical and extremely busy circumstances.
f. Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
g. Ability to maintain confidentiality or records and information.
h. Ability to effectively multitask by listening, talking, and typing at the same time.
4. Level of Physical Demands:
a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
b. Extensive sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time.
c. May sit, stand, stoop, and bend intermittently during the day.
d. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
e. Hear and detect radio traffic, ringing telephone, and alarm tones while speaking on communications equipment.
f. Frequent exposure to continual background noise, static, and additional ancillary noise from communications/office equipment.
