POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dispatcher receives calls from the public related to criminal activity or
fire/medical emergencies and broadcasts orders to police and fire units. This
person must be able to function in a sustained stressful environment, with the
ability to interpret and prioritize information immediately.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates all police, fire, ambulance and other emergency requests and
relaying instructions to the appropriate unit.
Interprets and prioritizes incoming and outgoing information by radio,
phone, verbal or writing in an accurate manner.
Enter warrant information into the computer system.
Transmits and receives messages from police and fire departments and other
law enforcement, fire and local agencies.
Records call broadcast and complaints received.
Relays instruction or questions from remote units and maintains contact with
remote units.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:
Must be familiar with computer keyboarding skills of 25 wpm.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to remain calm in responding
to tense and emergency situations.
Ability to read maps and give directions.
Knowledge of two-way radio communications.
Working knowledge of emergency response systems, i.e. 911, police scanners,
and other related computer operations desirable.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate or equivalent education (GED).
One (1) year experience in a police or fire science associate degree program
is desirable
No felony convictions.
Must pass a background check.
Must have a valid California Driver's License.
Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including
marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians.
Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
Indian preference will apply. The Pala Band of Mission Indians will give
hiring preference to fully qualified applicants that are Pala Tribal Members.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
All employees are expected to follow the Tribal Employee Handbook of the Pala
Band of Mission Indians and must adhere to any additional applicable addendums.
