GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Distance Education manages and coordinates online education at Swedish Institute. The Director serves as the primary administrator for online courses and programs, ensuring that they meet quality assurance metrics,
accreditation standards, and regulatory compliance requirements. The Director reports directly to the President and the Chief Academic Officer.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees professional development for online instructors.
- Prepares and manages the annual budget for the online department.
- Meets with the management team once a week to report on issues relating to online education.
- Participates in an on-going planning process that includes specific objectives, activities, and scheduling; assist in the development of the distance learning annual budget.
- Develops annual goals and action plans in cooperation with the Chief Academic Officer and the President of Swedish Institute.
- Creates a Program Advisory Committee for Online Education that meets twice a year. Produces minutes and annual reports on the activities of the Program Advisory Committee. Develops Action Plans based on PAC suggestions.
- Coordinates physical resources; assigns and supervises support staff; responds to problems related to distance learning as needed; and communicates with faculty, staff, and students regarding instructional issues.
- Collaborates with student services, campus bookstore, Learning Assistance Center(s), Public Information, Marketing and Development Manager.
- Participates in the faculty evaluation process where appropriate.
- Supervises the Instructional Design Specialist in designing and implementing processes for reviewing and evaluating distance education courses for instructional effectiveness and assist faculty with effective course design that reflects principles of learning theory.
- Serves as the primary contact for the college to the NYSED and ACCSC for online education.
- Provides accurate and appropriate information for internal and external reports; and oversee the maintenance of distance learning records and files.
- Remains current with regional and national developments in distance education and update faculty and staff on these developments through classes, workshops, and one-on-one training as appropriate.
- Ensures compliance with college, state, and federal codes, guidelines, and policies, including accreditation standards, copyright and intellectual property rights, and Section 508 compliance.
- Supervises distance education staff, including set priorities, direct workflow, and conduct employee evaluations.
- Attends a variety of meetings and serve on assigned committees.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Computer experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of Canvas LMS.
- Must be detail-oriented and extremely accurate.
- Must work well in a team-based environment with minimum supervision.
- Ability to type accurately.

Requirements:
- Master's degree or higher in Online Learning and Leadership, Instructional design, online curriculum design, or business or academic administration.
- 3 years of related work experience in academic administration or other administrative position in an online platform.
Compensation details: 90000-110000 Yearly Salary
