In this role, you'll ensure Durango residents have access to clean water and effective wastewater management. You'll perform a range of skilled and semi-skilled work to maintain and repair water meters, water and sewer mains, service lines, pumps, lift stations, and other water delivery and collections infrastructure. It's essential that these technical duties are matched by your commitment to delivering excellent customer service, as you'll be the face of our department to other City staff and members of our community.To help you succeed, we'll provide hands-on experience and structured classroom trainings so that you can advance your skills and earn certifications in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection. As a top performing member of our team, you'll have the opportunity to advance your career and annual salary over a span of just four years. Essential Job DutiesWhat You'll Do in This Role:
  • Inspect, maintain, and replace water meters to ensure proper operation
  • Maintain water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including hydrants, main lines, and sewer lines
  • Conduct sewer line inspections, maintenance, and repairs; lay new water and sewer lines as required
  • Operate pneumatic and hand tools; light equipment and trucks; and heavy equipment, including motor graders and heavy wheel front-end loaders during snow plowing and removal operations
  • Perform pumping station maintenance
  • Locate and mark water and sewer lines
  • Respond promptly to emergency callouts and repair needs
Minimum QualificationsYou Have:
  • Equivalent to completion of high school or GED
  • One year of experience performing maintenance work
  • Must obtain a CDL within six months of hire date
  • Must obtain and maintain certification in Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection within one year of hire date
  • Knowledge of general construction, maintenance, and repair related to water and wastewater distribution and collection systems
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service and following safety practices
