Job Description:

Primary goals and responsibilities are to provide “hands-on” leadership, administrative problem solving, team / individual development and overall directional assistance to a team of approximately 5 – 10 distribution center employees in the areas of picking, packing and shipping. By achieving these benchmarks, department goals and thus client expectations will be exceeded.

Staff Leadership

  • Assist with the interview process of prospective candidates for picking, packing and shipping openings to ensure the “best fit” for the Walthers team.
  • Aid in the day-to-day, on-the-job training of new and existing employees to ensure clear expectations are communicated, set, and understood.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with respective staff to review year to date goal achievement and discuss strategies to assist teams in reaching their goals.
  • Plan workflow and assign work schedules to maintain productivity and accuracy standards within teams.
  • Suggest and assist in implementing process improvements when situations warrant.
  • Assist with the administration of discipline as warranted. Ensure parameters of disciplinary program are corrective and not punitive in scope.
  • Effectively communicate job responsibilities, performance expectations, service standards/goals, and Walthers policies and procedures to team members. Ensure consistency on all communications with employees.
  • Suggest wage adjustments, promotions, transfers, and dismissals - as warranted. Ensure documentation supporting any such proposals is provided.
  • Recognize and reinforce individual / team accomplishments through existing organizational venues. Make recommendations as to new, creative and meaningful methods of recognition.
  • Manage team scheduling to ensure that Walthers clients are handled appropriately and in a timely manner. Review time off requests to ensure adequate coverage – approve and deny as appropriate.
  • Ensure that teams are adequately staffed to meet the flow of customer demand.
  • Ensure that absent and tardy policies are handled as per company standards and that policies are enforced consistently with all team members.
  • Team Management

    Lead day-to-day team operations to successfully achieve productivity, accuracy and attendance goals.

    • Assist with weekly staff meetings to discuss team morale, goal achievement / trends, expenses, and suggestions for improvement. Institute action plans as appropriate.
    • Ensure that warehouse is neat, clean, safe, and professional in appearance, so as to adequately represent the image of Walthers.
    • Ensure that there is proper back-up to handle issues when DC Supervisor is not on the floor i.e., meetings, etc.
    • Quickly communicate any maintenance issues to maintenance staff to handle any repairs in a timely manner.
    • Always maintain a calm and professional demeanor during periods of high volume and/or unusual events. Set a positive example for team members.
    • Perform administrative functions, reports and special projects as requested in an accurate and timely manner.
    • Identify, evaluate and resolve issues quickly, utilizing innovative ideas and sound judgment.

    Customer Service – Internal / External

    Teamwork

    Model a “customer–first” attitude to both internal and external customers. Set an example of legendary customer service, train team members to ensure they deliver service at or above Walthers standards.

    • Resolve issues with other departments in a professional and timely manner.
    • Ensure that all internal and external customer needs are consistently met or exceeded.
    • Create and maintain a reputation of prestigious service to both internal and external customers. Ensure team members do the same.
    • Interact effectively and respectfully with all employees by utilizing open, honest and professional communication skills.

    EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

    • 3 – 5 years' experience in a leadership role (Team Leader or Supervisor) of a 10 person or greater team.
    • 2 year degree in related field.
    • Able to become Forklift certified required.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $21.00 - $25.00 per hour

    Expected hours: 40 per week
