Location: District 3 - Northwest Iowa
Shift Requirements: 7:45 am to 4:30 pm Monday - Friday, flex schedule and telework options available. Some travel required. Report to the District 3 Office at an agreed upon frequence that meets business needs.
As a District Construction Engineer, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
* Overseeing and possessing knowledge of and experience with construction contract administration and inspection to help ensure delivery of quality, timely, and cost-effective projects that meet federal and state requirements, departmental policies and procedures and the customer's needs.
* Providing technical and policy consultation services to internal and external customers such as: materials technicians, District Engineer, District Construction and Resident Construction Engineers and their staffs, District Design Engineers and their staffs, County and City Engineers and their staffs, contractors, and materials producers
* Provide leadership and support to over 42 staff that includes engineers, technicians, and support staff for a 19-county area in northwest Iowa.
- Directing activities to evaluate constructability design plans, contract and specification requirements, and traffic management to assure that they meet Iowa DOT requirements and standards.
- Acting as the liaison between the District 3 office and the Department's central Construction and Materials offices.
* Reviews and signs off on the final materials audit and completion, final acceptance of the work, and final payment for all projects in the District.
* Utilizes understanding of engineering principles in many areas including highway design, structural engineering, hydrology, and traffic engineering.
* Serve on the District management team along with the District Engineer, Assistant District Engineer, and District Maintenance Manager.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) All of the following (a and b):
a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and
b. Four years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering, one year of which must have included supervisory/managerial responsibilities.
2) All of the following (a, b, and c):
a. Licensure as a professional engineer; and
b. Three years of full-time professional work experience in transportation engineering or civil engineering, one year of which must have included supervisory/managerial responsibilities; and
c. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, structural, or transportation engineering; engineering management; or a field closely related to transportation engineering.
3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer Manager or Transportation Engineer Senior or three years of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer Specialist.
