Brown Creek Soil & Water Conservation District District Administrator/Education Specialist Grade 62 Salary Range: $36,319 - $62,998 Hiring Range: $36,319 - $49,950 Depending on Qualifications and Experience General StatementThe Education Specialist/ Resource Conservationist Technician under limited supervision prepares natural resource and agriculture focused educational materials for planned activities, events, and programs; facilitates, organizes, instructs, and supervises educational and social activities; and shares educational resources with the general public to promote natural resource conservation. The position will also assist in the implementation of the North Carolina Division of Soil and Water Conservation Cost Share Program(s).Essential FunctionsWork is performed under the supervision of the Resource Conservationist and the District Board of Supervisors. Work is reviewed by the Resource Conservationist/Department Head, the District Board of Supervisors, and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Soil & Water.A breakdown of the position of the position's primary duties are as follows:•Environmental education and outreach.•Serves as Clerk to the Board of District Supervisors.•Assisting with the implementation of cost share programs and contracts.Required Duties•Presents natural resource conservation and agriculture lessons to students and other groups in classrooms, libraries, parks or other settings.•Develops, promotes, and oversees District-sponsored conservation activities, contests, and professional development opportunities for students. Establishes relationships with public, private, and other school personnel as well as relevant youth program leaders; coordinates with those parties to promote involvement by students in conservation education programming, activities, and professional development opportunities.•Seeks opportunities for partnerships with mission-related organizations such as Cooperative Extension, city and county Parks and Recreation, county libraries, youth centers, and relevant non-governmental organizations; fosters these partnerships through collaborative efforts.•Assists and coordinates conservation education efforts with other county departments local governments agencies organizations and area environmental educators to encourage natural resource stewardship in the general public.•Uses a variety of media such as Facebook, local newsprint, and email listservs, to promote wise use of natural resources and publicize the work of the district, including technical and educational services offered.•Serves on relevant committees and boards, such as Southern Piedmont Envirothon, among others.•Promotes and oversees Envirothon activities at the county level, including instructing teams and communicating competition details; volunteers at Envirothon competitions at the Regional and State levels.•Participates in both public and private community events to raise awareness of the District through outreach; including but not limited to community expos and festivals.•Provides support to the Department Head and Board of Supervisors; tasks include but are not limited to preparing meeting agendas, taking minutes, assisting with grant administration, record-keeping, and reports.•Oversees rental of no-till seed drills, including completing contracts and processing payments.•Provides support to the Department Head in editing, implementing, and meeting the goals set forth in the annual Strategy Plan.•Performs related additional duties as required and assigned including assisting with the implementation of the NC Division of Soil & Water Conservation Cost Share Programs.•Provides professional consultative and technical assistance to farmers and landowners regarding a wide variety of soil and water conservation practices.•Conduct field visits, observation and analysis of agricultural operations, data collection for existing land, water, and other natural resources, identification of natural resource concerns, development of solutions and best management practices to address natural resource concerns, and development and management of contracts for NC Division of Soil and Water Conservation Cost Share Program(s).•Performs any other duties as assigned.RequirementsQualifications:Minimum requirements for this position shall be one of the following: Associate degree in agriculture, biology, environmental education, forestry, natural resources, or a related field OR a high school diploma with two years of experience in agriculture, biology, environmental education, forestry, natural resources, or a related field. A bachelor's degree is preferred.The ideal candidate will have a rudimentary knowledge concerning agricultural operations and/or natural resource management and environmental science. They will be proactive in assisting the department grow, and understand the value of personal responsibility, mutual respect, teamwork, integrity, effective communication, and be motivated.Special Requirements:•Must have valid Driver's License.•Must obtain North Carolina Certified Environmental Education Certification within 5 years of hire date.Physical Demands:•Must be physically able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Work Environment:•Work is performed in a safe and secure work environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.•The position involves occasional field work, and the candidate must be comfortable working in outdoor conditions such as hot weather, inclement weather, insects, traversing steep and/or uneven terrain, proximity to livestock, etc.•In limited instances, overnight travel or extended working hours may be required.How to Apply:Applications and resumes should be sent to Jake Barbee, Resource Conservationist/Department Head at ...@ansoncountync.gov or mailed to BCSWCD 1758 Morven Road Wadesboro NC 28170.
