The Cultural Advocate will encourage students and staff to develop Arapaho Language skills and facilitate understanding of greater Native American culture by incorporating learning opportunities into the existing educational framework as well as developing new learning opportunities within the District. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists/Organizes and implements the Arapaho Language morning school-wide public announcements by students.
- Develops engaging Arapaho Language activities for students and staff district-wide.
- Coordinates and executes various student performance presentations focusing on the Arapaho language and culture.
- Provides cultural educational support to classroom teachers and instructional staff when appropriate.
- Creates a network of resources available to the District knowledgeable in the complex aspects of greater Native American culture.
- Assists in implementing Arapaho language and culture learning opportunities for students in both academic and non-academic areas.
- Coordinates with teachers in all grade-levels age-appropriate methods of integrating Arapaho culture and language in every-day classroom instructions.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff and/or parent/guardian in any public setting and chooses the appropriate time, place and supervisor to discuss issues or concerns.
- Uses positive verbal and non-verbal communication and interaction skills when working with students, parents, and all district personnel at all times.
- Seek opportunities to develop Arapaho language skills outside of the District using competition and other methods of facilitating learning.
- Coordinate periodic cultural sensitivity training for District staff.
- Collaborate with community elder organizations to develop learning opportunities with the District students and staff and District community.
- Must attend and pass all required training.
- Other duties as may be assigned.
