Job Title: District Dietitian

Exemption Status: Exempt

Reports to: Director of Child Nutrition

Pay Grade: AP1

Dept./School: Child Nutrition

Calendar Days: 226

Primary Purpose:

The District Dietitian is responsible for creating all school menus in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Performs analysis on all school menus and foods. Provides nutritional support and expertise in the area of student special diets and other departmental needs.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational experience with academic major in food and nutrition, dietetics, home and consumer sciences, food service management, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field

Registered Dietician, Licensed Dietician

Extensive knowledge of federal school meal programs and nutritional requirements

Clear and valid Texas driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of quantity food production methods and procedures

Experience with culinary technique, recipe development, food quality, food presentation and marketing

Proficient in MS office and USDA approved menu planning software

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to collaborate in a team environment

Ability to multitask, appropriately prioritize, be detail-oriented and goal driven and willing to learn and assume responsibility

Experience:

Two years of food service experience in an institutional or school food service operation preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

School Climate:

1. Monitor implementation of federal, state, and local regulations to ensure menu compliance

2. Oversee menu compliance in school cafeterias, employee training, and adjustments to recipes and menus

3. Provide training and guidance in regards to food quality and consistency at each campus

4. Assist with food item selection in compliance with Smart Snacks Rule for a la carte sales in lunch program

5. Assist with menu planning to ensure proper nutritional requirements set forth by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010

School Improvement:

6. Promote continuous improvement and development on menus for school breakfast, lunches, and after school snacks, maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

7. Meet with vendors and brokers to review selection of special diet items available.

8. Conduct yearly new product sampling with students at primary and secondary campuses.

Instructional Management:

9. Provide menu assistance for students with special dietary needs through collaboration with nurses and other health care providers, parents, and child nutrition staff.

10. Assist with monitoring Seamless Summer Child Nutrition Program.

Professional Growth and Development:

11. As approved by the Superintendent of designee, attends necessary meetings to stay abreast of changes in policy or procedures regarding the National School Lunch program guidelines.

12. Maintain all current certifications, licenses, and registrations by completing continuing education and reporting CE hours.

School/Community Relations:

13. Interact regularly and professionally with students, parents, campus administration,campus managers and staff.

14. Participate in efforts to promote community health.

15. Assist with the review and distribution of the nutrition newsletter for parents 16. Assist in the promotion of the Nutrition Policy to promote student health and wellness.

16. Participate in child nutrition related activities after school, possible weekend events.

Administrative and Fiscal Management:

17. Assist with the annual food service budget concerning special diet items.

18. Maintain records for students with special dietary needs.

19. Record all micro purchases for special diet items.

Other:

20. Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Child Nutrition Director or designee.

21. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
