POSITIONS: JOB DESCRIPTION: Our District Health Aide will assist the Public Health Nurse with student health visits, medication administration, minor student first aid, and behavioral interventions. This person must keep detailed and accurate records as assigned. This person must supervise children to ensure a positive, safe environment during health visits/lunch/recess time. To accomplish these tasks, the District Health Aide works closely with the staff and administration of Corunna Public Schools to ensure that all students receive the care they need along with a quality education and a safe environment.JOB / DISTRICT / COMMUNITY HIGHLIGHTS: Corunna Public Schools is looking for the best person available. Our school is the community hub, Homecoming is still a big deal in our small town, which is the county seat. Our community is incredibly supportive of our district as well. We have high-achieving athletic teams and award-winning extra-curricular programs. Despite having many students coming to us via school of choice, our constituents passed a pair of bond proposals since 2015. All active Corunna employees can enroll themselves and their family in the state's first onsite Cavalier Family Health Clinic. The clinic's goal is to provide (in almost all situations) free visits, free prescriptions, and other medical procedures for the active employee and her/his immediate family members. QUALIFICATIONS: - Minimum of an Associate's Degree or passing of the paraprofessional assessment
- Experience in a health care setting (preferred)
- Experience working as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant or other Health Care worker. (Preferred)
- Desire to continue career improvement.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to maintain accurate records of student interaction and medication administration.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- CPR certification within 60 days.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Knowledge, skill, and abilities to work with k-12 students.
- Administer student medication in accordance with the 5 rights-of-medication-administration
- Maintain a detailed and accurate log of all student interactions and medication administrations.
- Assist students with basic first aid. (Band-aids, ice packs, rest, hydration
- Take and report student vital signs.
- Report any student health or safety concerns to the Public Health Nurse or Administration.
- Contact Public Health Nurse for students needing further assessment or experiencing a medical emergency
- Participate in each building's Medical Emergency Response Team.
- Maintain HIPPA and FERPA compliance.
- Communicate with student guardians regarding student health concerns/visits.
- Assist students with toileting/hygiene needs as directed by the Public Health Nurse or other Administration.
- Assist Office Managers with phones and clerical duties as directed.
- Assist in supervising the students during class, lunch, and recess.
- Assist in responding to the individual needs of students.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district.
- Direct movement of groups to and from the lunchroom and playground in a safe and organized manner.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Assist working in various classroom environments to help students academically, emotionally, and socially
- Observe, record and report student behavior
- Use appropriate behavior management techniques to maintain a positive climate
- Set high expectations for student behavior
