Effective immediately the Buildings and Grounds office will accept applications for the District Building Maintenance position. LOCATION: District Wide HOURS: This position is 8 hours/day, 5 days per week from 5:30 am - 2:00 pm. Start time may vary depending on the assigned work area and building schedule. LINE OF AUTHORITY: Responsible to the Director of Operations; Assistant Director of Operations, Maintenance Supervisor, Facilities Coordinator, and Grounds ForemanRATE OF PAY: The base pay is $26.99/hour + $0.25/hour stipend and license pay when applicable per the 2023-2025 salary schedule for local #70 plus license pay and longevity when applicable. MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: High School Diploma or GED LICENSE REQUIREMENTS: Chief Engineer's License, Certified Pool Operator certificate, Registered Unlicensed Electrician, HVAC Certification preferred, valid driver's license without restrictions that would prevent driving of district vehicles POSITION SUMMARY: The District Maintenance position performs a variety of tasks involving the general maintenance and repair of school buildings, premises, and varied equipment. Scope of duties may include, but are not limited to plumbing, electrical, lock repairs, painting, heating, and ventilating services and other normal routine maintenance duties associated with the operations of school district buildings and equipment. This position acts as a substitute custodian when necessary. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • General installation and preventative maintenance work
  • Repairs or replaces electrical wiring and fixtures in accordance with blue-prints, manuals, building codes, and safety regulations
  • Installs, repairs, and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and other plumbing equipment, and opens clogged drains using appropriate tools
  • Attends in-service training to develop and improve knowledge and skills of building service work
  • Painting of interior or exterior walls, structures or graffiti
  • Replace floor tile or ceramic bathroom tile
  • Replace electrical ballasts, fluorescent tubes and light bulbs
  • Installing paper towel or toilet paper dispensers
  • Patching holes in plaster or wood walls
  • Installing classroom items
  • Vandalism repair work
  • Preventative maintenance on equipment
  • HVAC filter replacement
  • Pressure washing
  • Locker repairs
  • Replacement of ceiling tiles
  • Custodial duties as needed for sub fill in, including tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dumping trash, cleaning, light building repairs, etc.
  • May fill in for any Buildings & Grounds employee or district driving position
  • Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools
  • Other project as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires good physical conditioning, manual dexterity, upper body strength, good depth perception, endurance, eye-hand coordination, and agility with no serious defect of vision, hearing or members. Must be able to repetitively lift 50# on a regular basis.

  • Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching
  • Requires climbing and balancing
  • Occasional work around dust, fumes, and odors

WORKING CONDITIONS Grease, oil, vapors, engine noise, climatic conditions are common in this work. Although minimized by safety practices, accidents and physical hazards connected with this work are always present. Tasks involve lifting, stooping, bending, carrying, operating motor vehicles and long periods of standing, sitting or walking. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary
  • Ability to operate hand, power, plumbing, carpentry and electrical tools
  • Ability to perform general maintenance and upkeep on HVAC systems
  • Ability to perform basic carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical and mechanical work
  • Acquire the ability to support each essential trade discipline satisfactorily with knowledge of tools and techniques to complete the task
  • Skills in using measurement devices
  • Follows local, state, and OSHA regulations
  • Ability to read chemical labels
  • Ability to read material safety data sheets (MSDS)
  • React to change productively
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  • A hands on and or written test may be administered to verify abilities
