Base hourly rate is $23.05 with proper certification. Additional compensation for level of education and past work-related experience may be granted.
Purpose: The District Maintenance Worker maintains school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. To accomplish these tasks District Maintenance Worker must work closely with the staff and administration of USD 253.
Responsible to: Director of Maintenance and Grounds

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Prior work experience in electricity, plumbing, painting, carpentry, custodial and general maintenance. Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office. Desire to continue career improvement. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable. Essential Functions: Maintain school buildings and grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. Ensure that all programs and activities conform to district guidelines. Appropriately operate all equipment and machinery as necessary. Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community. React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned. Support the value of an education. Support the vision and mission of USD 253. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions: Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials. Requires stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching. Requires climbing and balancing. Must work indoors and outdoors year-round. Must work in noisy and crowded environments. Must work in and around dust, fumes and odors. General Responsibilities: Assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition. Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds. Work independently and effectively supervise those under his/her supervision. Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance Perform maintenance, repair, and installation in connection with:- Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems,
- Exterior and interior of buildings,
- School grounds and equipment.
Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings. Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools. Act as a substitute custodian when necessary. Respect the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents, and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics, and state and federal laws. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. Stay abreast of new technologies, data management and communication. Comply with legal and regulatory requirements as provided by state and federal law. Uphold and enforce board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules/regulations including but not limited to:- Acceptable use of technology
- Sexual and racial harassment
- Child abuse reporting
- Health and safety including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan
Maintain safe and well-organized instructional spaces. Respond to change in a productive manner. Strive to communicate the positive aspects of our school program to the public in word and deed. Other duties as assigned by administration.
