District Mentor Teacher Program Liaison Qualifications:
  • Retired educator with experience from an Alabama school district.
  • Must hold a appropriate Alabama Class A Professional Educator Certificate. An endorsement in elementary education and/or a core academic subject at the secondary level is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of five years' successful teaching experience, experience as a mentor teacher, and are recognized for their instructional leadership.
  • Model professional learning and growth through participation in (and/or leadership of) job-embedded professional development activities.
  • Demonstrate excellence in communicating and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Strong facilitation skills and demonstrated effectiveness in provision of professional development or training to individuals and groups.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mentoring and development of new teachers and are enthusiastic about the potential of the Alabama Teacher Mentor program.
  • Experience in developing and delivering professional development activities.
  • Valid Alabama driver license, reliable transportation, and evidence of insurance.
  • Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau Investigation.   • Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:

    • Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.

    Essential Job Functions:
  • Successfully complete the Alabama Teacher Mentor Training provided by the ALSDE and will actively participate in a mentor liaison network in their region for purposes of follow-up and support.
  • Communicate with the ALSDE Educator Effectiveness staff and will respond to the coordinator's and the SDE's data collection and information requests, including participation in activities designed to evaluate the statewide mentor program.
  • Coordinate mentor training and support for mentors in all schools in their school system. Specifically, they will:
  • Provide initial training for all mentors in their school system prior to the beginning of the school year.
  • Provide follow-up training for mentors as suggested by the ALSDE.
  • Introduce all mentors to the Alabama Quality Teaching Standards and assist them in using these standards for personal reflection, self-assessment, and improvement planning-and in the mentoring of their new teachers.
  • Provide ongoing support to mentors in individual schools-offering information and technical assistance as needed.
  • Coordinate the conduct of formative and summative assessments by mentors and mentees as suggested by the ALSDE.
  • Communicate with their school system's principals about the ATM program and work to ensure that the principals have a deep understanding of the purposes and processes associated with the ATM program-particularly the criteria for mentor selection and the nature of the mentor-mentee relationship.
  • Work with building administrators to ensure that mentors and new teachers receive the assistance and support they require.
  • Continuously monitor and assess the effectiveness of their school system's teacher mentor program.

Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times. EMPLOYMENT: This is a part time twelve-month contract (189 days). Salary range is based on the annual limitation on earnings set by the Teachers Retirement Systems of Alabama. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated based upon the end of the year survey from principals, mentors, mentees, and the Director of Human Resources.
