Our District serves an area that spans 20 square miles of Fresno County and encompasses a population base of more than 16,500. Our family consists of four elementary schools, one junior high school, one comprehensive high school, one continuation school and one adult school. District enrollment is slightly under 3,500 students. Job Summary5.5 Hours per day 8:00am- 1:30pm Job Description / Essential Elements: BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Director of Student Services or designee; provide health case management and render health services to children in the Parlier Unified School District. ESSSENTIAL DUTIES: •Establish and maintain a comprehensive school health program by working in a team concept with teachers, administrators, speech therapist, psychologist and medical consultant, and be responsible for the health component of students and students with special needs; the individual education plan in order to maximize the physical/educational potential of the student. •Follow the prescribed procedures of Emergency Care, Medication at School, Specialized Physical Health Care, and special and mandated programs; train and designate competent personnel to provide health care where applicable. •Initiate and maintain a health record and related communication system. •Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice in relation to ethical professional practice standards and relevant statute, regulations, and policies; consider factors related to safety and cost in planning and delivering care and promote the use of research findings in school nursing practice. •Interact with and contribute to the professional development of peers and school personnel as colleagues. •Collaborate with the student, family, and other health care providers in providing student's needs. •Coordinate school health services; assist students, families, school staff, and community to achieve optimal levels of wellness through appropriately designed and delivered health education. •Collect and analyze the assessment of client data in determining nursing diagnoses. •Identify, develop, implement interventions and evaluate a plan of care/action for expected outcomes individualized to the client and assess the progress toward attainment of outcomes. •Prepare a schedule and keep it current; Determine personal goals and objectives. •Maintain professional standards and participate in professional growth opportunities; Conduct and/or participate in in-service training programs. •Adhere to guidelines established in the Procedures Manual for Special Education Staff. •Adhere to the schedules and policies as determined by the Parlier Unified School District. SCHOOL NURSE (Lead) Page 2 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: KNOWLEDGE OF: •Principles, practices, theories, methods, techniques and strategies, pediatric health and development, including prevention medicine and emergency procedures pertaining to assisting students with physical disabilities; current knowledge and competency in nursing practice techniques and procedures; program evaluation strategies; and impact of the disability on family interactions and development. ABILITY TO: •Plan, organize, develop, adapt and provide health case management and render health services to students with physical disabilities; Work with students, families, school staff and community agencies; communicate effectively in oral and written forms to a variety of audiences; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the special education team, parents and agencies. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: B.S. or B.A.; Experience in Clinical, Public Health or School Nursing desired. Valid School Nurse Credential, Valid California R.N., California P.H.N. certificate desired, Audiometric Certificate; Valid California driver's license. WORKING CONDITIONS: ENVIRONMENT: Health office environment. Classroom and playground environment. Home and clinical environment. Constant interruptions. Driving a vehicle to conduct work. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sitting, standing or walking for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity and coordination sufficient to operate classroom equipment and to lead students in motor skills development activities; handle and/or feel; reach with hands and arms; hearing and speaking sufficient to communicate with students, teachers, staff and parents; seeing to read a variety of materials; bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching; climb or balance; understandable voice and speech patterns; must frequently lift, push, pull or carry up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
