District Security Supervisor Job Goal: To direct and coordinate systems that ensure the security and safety of all WPS students and staff. Performance Responsibilities - Establishes and maintains a working knowledge of all Weston Public School policies, handbooks, and applicable staff and student rights and laws;
- Works in conjunction with the Weston Police Department and other applicable security/safety agencies;
- Visits and monitors all school facilities to ensure safe operation;
- Assesses need for security updates and/or trainings to promote safety campus-wide;
- Prepares and maintains school safety and emergency response plans, coordinates annual revision and submission, and works collaboratively with security staff and administrators to review necessary updates;
- Performs or coordinates annual training in emergency response for district employees in collaboration with town agencies;
- Conducts or arranges appropriate in-service workshops for staff development related to school safety;
- Coordinates and distributes necessary blueprints and diagrams for emergency response providers, including, but not limited to chemical storage areas, electric and water line locations and shutoffs, gas line locations and shut off, door evacuation locations and numbering, fire suppression equipment locations, any other safety related equipment used throughout the District;
- Coordinates emergency evacuation record-keeping and reporting of information to emergency service providers in the event of an emergency response;
- Coordinates the schools' participation in emergency preparedness drills and supports the facilitation of such drills;
- Recommends policies, procedures, and contract language to improve safety;
- Coordinates and facilitates district and school security team meetings;
- Supervises, evaluates and oversees the district's safety and security specialists;
- Establishes security for extra-curricular and special school events, when appropriate;
- Coordinates door locking systems and responsibilities for locking doors throughout the district;
- Works collaboratively with district and school administrators to assess and address school safety/security needs;
- Coordinates all security issues in conjunction with the Weston Police Department and/or any other appropriate local, state or federal security/safety agencies;
- Performs investigatory work as needed;
- Supports Central Office with residency issues;
- Protects confidentiality of records and information about students and staff, and uses discretion when sharing any such information;
- Participates in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attends any required meetings;
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or designee.
Qualifications - Associate degree in criminal justice or related field;
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience required, law enforcement experience preferred;
- Leadership experience required, preferably in education, public safety or other governmental organization;
- Working knowledge of technical systems and security software;
- Valid driver's license and access to personal vehicle;
- Strong speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills with the ability to navigate competing points of view;
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Physical Requirements - Seeing, hearing, speaking and writing clearly, occasionally reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling and crouching;
- Frequently sitting, standing, running and walking, which may be required for long periods of time and may involve climbing stairs and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain;
- Additional physical requirements include frequent lifting and moving up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds;
- Strength to subdue resistant person.
