Maybe you want to work in this industry - OR - maybe you are interested in learning for a future home of your own. Either way - this is an internship on the cutting edge of the industry!

Volta is committed to developing next-generation buildings - healthy, comfortable and ultra-efficient - for a sustainable future.You will learn project planning and the basics of several skilled trades, as well as woodworking and finishing techniques for residential buildings.
Project Description:
- Multi-Family Construction: Focused on sustainable techniques and cost-effective construction.
- High-Performance Buildings: Healthy, comfortable, and quiet net-zero energy and carbon-neutral buildings.
- High-end Finishes: Custom cabinetry, quality finishes, and products.
You will learn about:Solar Photovoltaics; Geothermal Heating & Cooling; High-performance Insulation & Soundproofing Techniques; Deep-energy building envelopes and so much more.
Knowledge gained from this internship could help you achieve the following training and certifications:
- LEED Accredited Professional Designation: Standards in six categories: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Innovation in Design.
- Passive House Construction: Performance-based certification focusing on energy use reduction for space heating and cooling.
- Living Building Challenge: Advanced sustainability certification for the built environment.
- EPA Indoor Air PLUS & WaterSense: Voluntary programs improving indoor air quality and water efficiency.
- DOE Zero Ready Home: High-performance homes with the potential for renewable energy systems to offset most or all annual energy use.
- Energy Star for Multifamily
Here's our current timeline and what you'll learn about if interning during this timeline:
- Current: Deconstruction of the current building (aiming to donate or reuse materials).
- Mid-June to July: Excavations.
- July: Foundation work, including underground plumbing and radiant floor installation.
- August & September: Framing and thermal wrap installation.
- October to December: Mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and radiant floor work (2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors).
- January & February: Finishes and detailed work.
