Bread for the World is a Christian advocacy organization urging U.S. decision makers to do all they can to pursue a world without hunger. Our mission is to educate and equip people to advocate for policies and programs that can help end hunger in the U.S. and around the world. The Karen Sue Smith and Rose DiMartino Internship Program enables you to contribute your efforts to this mission while benefiting from opportunities for supervised learning, personal development, and gain work experience.DEPARTMENT: Policy and Research Institute (PRI) REPORTS TO: Senior Policy AdvisorSEMESTER: Spring (January 6 - April 30, 2025)SCHEDULE: Full Time: up to 30 hours per week APPLY BY: December 9, 2024PRIMARY PURPOSE: The intern will support PRI's efforts to implement our Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) strategy through:
  • Research and policy analysis.
  • Attending coalition meetings and WIC events with the eye towards building partnerships and learning what partners are working on.
  • Assist with the WIC components of Bread's Jubilee Campaign; and
  • Educational programming for internal and external Bread audiences.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
  • Interest in the impact of WIC on families.
  • Writings (either term paper, memo or publications) on issues of domestic social safety net programs generally.
  • Interests in researching the history of WIC and its impact on food security.
  • Openness to present findings to various audiences.
  • Social media savvy.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Commitment to the mission of Bread for the World.
WORK ENVIRONMENT ISSUES:
  • This internship can be based in Washington, DC or remote.
