Harbor House of Central Florida is seeking a passionate and experienced Prevention Advocate to join our team in promoting healthy teen relationships and preventing teen dating violence. In this role, you will work closely with the Prevention Coordinator to develop and implement prevention initiatives, including leading the Expect Respect Curriculum within Orange County Public Schools. You will also play an active role in Camp Hope, supporting children impacted by domestic violence as they embark on a journey of healing and empowerment.As a key member of our prevention team, you will help coordinate educational programs aimed at stopping violence before it starts, focusing on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their connection to teen dating violence and unhealthy relationships. This role also supports the Orange County Domestic Violence Task Force (OCDVTF) by increasing community capacity for prevention education and promoting skills for fostering healthy, safe relationships.Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver the Expect Respect Curriculum within Orange County Public Schools, teaching students about healthy relationships, recognizing signs of abuse, and how to prevent dating violence.
- Support Camp Hope in guiding children and teens affected by domestic violence, helping them build resilience and recover from trauma.
- Incorporate knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) into prevention efforts, using this framework to address the impact of trauma on teens and promote protective factors that prevent future violence.
- Assist in promoting Healthy Teen Relationships programs to prevent teen dating violence and other forms of abuse.
- Coordinate and implement primary prevention initiatives in schools, youth organizations, and the broader community.
- Collaborate with the Orange County Domestic Violence Task Force (OCDVTF) to enhance community prevention strategies and improve knowledge of dating violence prevention.
- Deliver presentations and training sessions to school staff, students, parents, and community members on domestic violence prevention, healthy relationship skills, and the importance of addressing ACEs in violence prevention.
- Establish partnerships with schools, community groups, and other stakeholders to support and expand prevention efforts across Central Florida.
- Assist in developing new prevention programs, activities, and outreach strategies aimed at reducing teen dating violence and improving community awareness.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Education, Social Services, or a related field preferred (professional experience may substitute for education at the CEO's discretion).
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in community-based programs, presentations, and training; experience working with schools or youth-focused programs is preferred.
- Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and their long-term impact on children and teens, especially in relation to domestic violence prevention.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with experience leading group discussions and educational programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel for creating presentations and managing program data.
- Excellent written communication skills for professional correspondence and program documentation.
- Must hold a valid Florida Driver's License and be eligible for coverage under the agency's insurance policy.
- Completion of CORE Competency training within 30 days of hire is required.
