McHenry Visiting Professor in Diplomacy and International Affairs. Illinois State University specifically seeks to honor the career of Ambassador McHenry, an alumnus of the university, by hiring a prominent practitioner who can teach students about diplomacy, international relations, and careers in foreign service. This position is housed in the College's Department of Politics and Government, and the candidate selected will hold a two-year, residential faculty position to begin on August 16, 2025. Teaching responsibilities include instructing one undergraduate seminar each semester (Fall and Spring) in an area of the candidate's expertise. The candidate selected for this position must deliver at least one public address each academic year and is expected to organize and engage in other campus and community events. The McHenry Visiting Professor will have a dedicated budget and department support for establishing and carrying out a program of events. The Department of Politics and Government: The Department of Politics and Government is housed within the College of Arts and Sciences ([ which is home to 19 academic departments and interdisciplinary programs. The Department offers B.A./B.S. and M.A./M.S. degrees in political science and an American Bar Association-approved paralegal education program offering the B.A./B.S. degrees in legal studies. The department community includes is made up of a vibrant, dynamic, and energetic group of faculty, students, and staff dedicated to a student-centered approach to teaching as well as academic rigor. In both teaching and research, members of the Department cover all subfields of political science, including international relations, comparative politics, American politics, public law and legal studies, political theory, and political methodology. The faculty produce high quality research, publish work in top journals, and author books on topics spanning the subfields in political science. Faculty also share their expertise through invited talks and media interviews with both local and national outlets. The Department publishes the Critique, a student journal, and hosts an annual student conference in political science. The Department has a long tradition of sponsoring student engagement outside of the classroom, as it supports programs such as an intercollegiate mock trial team, Model U.N., study abroad experiences, and annual trips to Washington, D.C.
