This includes screening all visitors entering the building. In addition, the position will assist with open records requests and other duties as assigned. Additionally, this position may be required to perform general law enforcement activities and patrol deputy duties. Performs duties in compliance with all state and federal laws, standards, and guidelines and departmental policies, procedures, and directives. This position is shared position with a flexible schedule covering Monday - Friday, 8a - 4:30p and is expected to work approximately 20 hours per week; however this can be flexible along with the specific days and times worked. This position would not be eligible for benefits and not represented by a union.
Monitors and controls access and screens visitors coming into the Justice Center building and ensures security and order is maintained. Screens for weapons using metal detection equipment and other electronic screening equipment where applicable. Assist the Sheriff's Department with open records requests and works closely with Corporation Counsel on request response. Attends court proceedings to ensure security and order is maintained as needed. Administers urinalysis drug screening tests for drug court as needed. Assists jail staff in escorting inmates to/from court for court appearances as needed. Conduct investigations on threats to the security of the Justice Center and its employees, and performs surveillance and follow-up on any suspicious behavior observed or notified of at the building. Answers all emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Enforces all State Laws and County Ordinances. Renders first aid to persons in need. Discovers and prevents the commission of crimes, enforces ordinances and all state and motor vehicle laws for designated areas. Conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence, obtains witness statements, makes arrests, and escorts prisoners from the scenes of crimes. Detains anyone wanted through the serving of warrants. Makes dispositions of all complaints or inquiries or directs people to the proper organizations to handle the complaints. Prepares evidence for issuance of complaints; serves criminal process, including warrants and subpoenas. Completes clear and concise reports; compiling factual data, evidence and conduct interviews and interrogations when appropriate. Performs investigative duties that cover a wide range of cases including, but not limited to sexual assault, child abuse, assault, battery, forgery, arson, burglary, theft, vandalism, and background investigations. Takes appropriate measures to preserve potential evidence including taking photographs, making casts, taking custody, making detailed notes, and/or calling in appropriate experts as necessary. Ensures evidence is properly gathered, preserved, transferred, and secured. Interviews victims of criminal activity and potential witnesses or suspects. Acts in a relief capacity, working in other areas of the department as assigned. Performs public relations duties as required or assigned. Carries out any lawful order or duty as prescribed by the Sheriff or supervisor. Participates in and presents preventative education and information through community and school awareness projects; teaches and counsels those within the community on law enforcement activities, programs and referral resources. Maintains equipment in clean and operating order. Other duties as assigned. - Must be current Law Enforcement Standards Board Certified. This includes:
High school diploma/GED and completion of 60 college creditsUS CitizenshipAge 21 or older - A valid driver's license required.
- No felony or domestic misdemeanor or any offense, which, if committed in Wisconsin, could be punished as felony or domestic misdemeanor unless the applicant has been granted an absolute and unconditional pardon.
- Two years law enforcement experience.
- Must successfully pass Pre-employment and Post-Offer Testing, including a background investigation, drug screen and psychological examination. Failure to pass these will result in the employment offer being revoked.
- Must pass a post offer pre-employment physical and functional ability exam. Failure to pass these will result in the employment offer being revoked.
- Must be a resident of Barron County within the timeframe specified by the County at time of appointment and must remain a resident of Barron County during the employment period.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of all law enforcement-related equipment including, but not limited to personal computer, communication equipment, cameras, weapons, radios, alcohol detection devices, speed detection devices, and operation of emergency vehicles.
