JOB SUMMARY:
Schedule: Winter Hours: 7:00am - 3:30pm, Summer Hours: 6:00am - 2:30pm
The starting salary is $30.00/hr. This is a union position under Local 150 and the wage is not negotiable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Operate a variety of instruments to test, service and repair vehicles and other mechanical equipment.
* Inspect, adjust, and replace parts to repair and maintain vehicles and equipment.
* Repairs brakes, engines, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle assemblies and/or related work.
* Changes tires and tubes, cuts and welds metal and performs fabrication and minor repairs.
* Participates in other general highway maintenance activities, will assist in winter operations snow and ice removal on the County Highway system.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:
* Hand tools
* Electric tools
* Air-driven tools
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education and Experience:
* High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
* 1-3 years of current automotive and equipment repair
Licenses and Certifications:
* Must have a valid Class B CDL license with air brake endorsement and the ability to obtain a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within one year of employment.
SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Skill in:
* Working knowledge of automotive truck and equipment parts along with diesel engine operation and maintenance, welding and fabrication of heavy machinery, tractors, and all type of small engine repairs.
* Snow removal and highway maintenance experience is desired.
* General computer skills and mechanical knowledge is desired.
* Timeliness, punctuality, and attendance according to personal schedule is required for the entire department to operate appropriately.
Ability to:
* Perform strenuous physical labor outdoors in all weather conditions (24 hours a day).
* Successfully pass a background check and pre-employment physical.
