Department of Public Works Maintenance Trainee The Charter Township of Shelby is accepting applications for the position of Department of Public Works Seasonal Temporary Maintenance Trainee. The scheduled work hours will be 7:30 am - 4 pm with a duration of 90 days but may be extended to 120 days. Qualified candidates must upload the following proof with the application:
- Proof of education. Examples of acceptable documents may include: high school diploma, GED, college degree, college transcripts, etc.
- Proof of a valid State of Michigan Driver's License required; Commercial Driver's License or permit with Group A designation is preferred.
Qualified candidates must have at least two (2) year of related work experience. Salary: $26.51 per hour. SUMMARY Perform general maintenance, repair and physical labor duties on a variety of Township equipment, property and facilities using a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment. May perform some of the duties of a Maintenance Person I. SUPERVISION RECEIVED Work is performed under the general supervision of the DPW Maintenance Person III or PRM Supervisor. SUPERVISION EXERCISED None. RESPONSIBILITIES, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.
Clean and maintain assigned areas of the Township Hall and other municipal properties. Obtain water meter readings for billing purposes. Perform minor repair and maintenance work on a variety of Township property, tools and equipment. Perform a variety of repair and ground maintenance functions. Perform clean up duties at work projects where necessary. Perform the duties of a Maintenance Person I. Record status of work completed and material use for maintenance or repair projects. Perform related work as required ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR EMPLOYMENT All of the following functions, qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities are essential. An employee in this class must have the following upon application:
- Knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment, building and grounds.
- Knowledge of relevant safety procedures and practices regarding maintenance and repair work.
- Ability to perform a variety of minor maintenance tasks.
- Reasonable skill in the operation of power equipment and tools.
- Ability to perform physical labor involving lifting and carrying at least 50 pounds on a routine basis.
- Possess good mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to walk, crawl, climb, reach, and maneuver where physical mobility is required to complete the duties of the job.
- Ability to work effectively with other employees and the public.
- Valid Michigan Driver's license with preference given to those with a class A Commercial Drivers License permit with proper endorsements.
- Required training and experience includes graduation from high school or equivalent, and at least two years of related experience.
